Mourning

Disclaimer: Though it saddens me to say it, I don’t own anything relating to Takahashi-sensei’s Inuyasha. However, the plot and/or ideas of this drabble series do belong to me.

A/N: Life is often difficult. You may have to go over many bumps in the road in order for things to get better, but… Have faith and never lose hope. Update 1 of 2.

Chapter 34: Mourning

He had known, instantly, when the gravity of what he had told her had sunk into her mind. As if a bucket of cold water had been splashed on her, all traces of anger vanished, and a keening wail escaped from her lips. She threw her arms around herself, clutching desperately at her skin, nails digging into her flesh. She curled into a ball, paying no attention to the physical pain of her body, too overcome by the raw emotion stabbing daggers into her chest.

Sesshoumaru watched as she was consumed by her grief, wanting nothing more than to fold her into his embrace and wipe away her tears. The back of his eyes stung, a telltale sign of impending moisture, and he clenched his hands tightly, biting the inside of his cheek. The act of crying, while not totally unfamiliar to him, was still something that he did not like to indulge in often and was a concept that he wasn’t at all comfortable with. However, knowing there was no other outlet through which he could properly vent out his feelings and keep the entire building intact, he stayed put–remaining by his female’s side. He would not leave her by herself.

Though he was firm in his belief that it was the right path to take, he experienced Kagome’s suffering as if it was his own. That every shuddering breath she took squeezed his lungs, before the invisible pressure eased and the process repeated itself. But truthfully, the heart-wrenching turmoil they were going through was, indeed, a shared pain–a hurt only those with children could feel.

The hearts of the young parents throbbed, aching and bleeding with their despair.

Because of an accidental misstep and the fall that had resulted afterward, their daughter had been stolen away from them.
