Chapter 22: Endless Questions

“How are you doing?”

Inuyasha didn’t even turn to acknowledge his companion. “Alright, I guess,” he answered, watching the rain outside of the windows and feeling as cold and empty as it looked. “Did you tell him?”

“I did.”

“And?”

“Do you even have to ask?” The question was purely rhetorical. “Sesshoumaru-san didn’t say a word.”

Inuyasha frowned, knowing that his brother was probably beating himself up at that moment, but said nothing.

“Kagome’s family will be here soon. But in the state Sesshoumaru-san’s in, I don’t think he’ll let them near her. Can I trust you to do something about that?”

The raindrops slowed and drummed lightly against the windowpanes.

“…I’ll handle it. Thanks, Jinenji.”
