Chapter 125: Loyalty

I’d never thought you’d be such a coward.”

Sesshoumaru closed his eyes, heart stung by the whispered words. His lingering feelings of self-loathing threatened to swallow him whole, a dull ache spreading through his chest. The lump in his throat grew with the guilt that was gnawing at his conscience.

Inuyasha…” he began slowly. “I was–”

The younger man scowled, throwing up a hand to silence him. “Save it. I don’t wanna hear your excuses about why you think abandoning your wife is a good idea.”

I am not–”

Oh, really? Then can you explain why I just caught you leaving her a letter of all things and trying to escape out the window? I mean, what the fuck, Sesshoumaru?” Inuyasha snapped. “Why can’t you just tell her the truth? And don’t give me that crap about putting her in danger after all that’s happened. In case you haven’t noticed already, shit’s hit the fan.”

Never in a million years did Inuyasha think he would have to be Sesshoumaru’s voice of reason again. After Kagome’s miscarriage, he had been forced to scold him like a child just to bring him back from the brink of depression. But Sesshoumaru obviously hadn’t learned his lesson.

As he watched his brother cast another longing look at Kagome, Inuyasha came to a decision.

You. Me. At the dojo. Now.” Sweeping his hair over his shoulder, the man stormed out of the room, missing the worn expression on Sesshoumaru’s face.
