The Grey Scale by Lady Kirara

When the Lord is Away

When the Lord is Away

Wrapping herself in a towel Kagome let the steam from the shower surround her. She felt like she’d just stepped out of a fairytale. If any of her friends had asked her six months ago where she imagined herself, Sesshoumaru’s home was the last answer she would have given.

She shuffled over to the nightstand next to her bed and grabbed the phone that was charging. Frowning she set it back down and flopped back onto the bed. Sesshoumaru had been gone for little more than a day, but already she missed him. She was sure whatever work he was doing was important, but she was selfish enough to admit she liked their daily phone calls.

Not wanting to let paranoia set in she dressed quickly and made her way down to the kitchen. She passed a small office on her way there and poked her head in to say a hurried hello to Jaken, who was more than happy to ignore her until she actually needed something.

For such a big house it took her surprisingly little time to learn where everything was. Not really in the mood to cook a huge meal for one she grabbed a bowl from the cupboard and poured herself some cereal.

Plink

Creak

What’s she doing?! Jaken had heard enough. Following the sounds the imp crept slowly down the hall being extra careful not to make any sudden noises.

Plink

Just what the hell was that? As he got closer he realized the sound was coming from the kitchen. With resolve his master would be proud of he jumped out from behind the doorway, ready to defend his home. However, the sight that greeted him left the imp feeling rather foolish and outright confused.

Kagome stood near him wide eyed and baffled. Following her gaze he watched, amazed, when a cabinet swung open and a small acorn fell into a rather large pile on the floor. “What is the meaning of this ruckus in my master’s home?!”

Creak

Plink

Kagome shrugged, clearly having no idea what was causing it. “I wouldn’t get too close if I were you.”

Jaken ignored her. It’s my job to look after the home when the master is away. Inching closer, he waited for the plink of an acorn before wrenching the door open.

“AHA!” In a rush, dozens of the small nuts fell on top of the imp burying him beneath it. Kagome went to help him out when a single piece of paper fell on top of the man’s head.

Reading it to herself she squealed. “Shippou is coming to visit!!”

Spitting out a nut, Jaken groaned. Just great- more people to clean up after.
