Chapter Seventy-Six

Upon arriving on the scene, Kagome had made Miroku and Inuyasha remove the debris enough for her and the demon father to move into the den, after that Miroku and Inuyasha continued to clear the area being careful of the family and doctor within the crumbling den. Using a sled of blankets and sticks, they managed to pull the pregnant female from the den and into the open, where Kagome could assist her without worry of the den caving in. Once preparations had been started Kagome began to work on both the leg of her patient and bark orders at the men around her to begin ascertaining the state of the woman’s pregnancy.

As the moments ticked by and the sun began to set, Miroku took the liberty of making a few fires while Inuyasha took the liberty of securing the area and as Kagome worked the father-demon sat close to her, alternating between helping and encouraging his mate and watching the human priestess exhaust herself without stopping.

“Yosh, now listen to me Kimiko-chan, I need you to mock me, can you do that? Watch carefully and stay with me.” Kagome began a breathing practice that was taught to pregnant women in classes during the early stages of pregnancy, “I know it sounds funny, Kimi-chan but trust me, c’mon.” Kagome encouraged the woman, hugging her from behind and holding the woman’s up. When Kimiko picked up the pace easily Kagome moved and gestured the father-demon in her place. When Kagome suggested he do the breathing to, to keep Kimiki in rhythm, he easily obliged even though he blushed and looked a bit sour about it.

Kagome moved to kneel in front of Kimiki and kept her legs curled up by her sides, “I’m going to see how much you’ve dilated Kimi-chan, and that involved me touching you, do you understand?”

Miroku almost passed out and fell into the fire, but Inuyasha leapt out and caught him, “Don’t be such a fucking letch, bouzo.” The hanyou snapped softly, snarling into the humans ears so as to not alert the demonic couple. Miroku smiled blissfully, a trail of blood seeped from his nose and a blush stained his face. Inuyasha snarled and tossed the monk off into the tree line, glancing back to make sure no one noticed the scream or the breaking foliage, and leapt off to finish beating on the monk.

Kagome slipped her fingers into Kimiko and smiled up at the female, “Good news, Kimi-chan, you’re dialed to ten and I can feel the baby.” Keeping a few fingers inside Kimiko Kagome pressed her other hand to the top of Kimiko’s stomach. When the female grunted, Kagome’s sharp eyes immediately were on the female demon’s face. Her canine-like face was contorted with pain and exhaustion but her eyes were just as sharp as Kagome’s, as focused as the other female on her counterpart.

“Twins,” They said together as Kagome offered a soft apology and slipped her whole hand into Kimiko, making sure it was a head she was feeling and not a butt or a back. Fearful Kagome glanced up as Kimiko adjusted to the off pressure, “Tell me immediately if you are in pain, understand?”

“I understand.” Kimiko nodded, allowing her head to tilt back onto her mates shoulder, he instantly began to speak to her in hushed tones. Kagome allowed them a moment as she  pulled her torso back to peer at Kimiko’s opening, and found it was indeed a head that rested in her palm.

“Yosh, breathe again and push only when I say Kimiko-chan!” Kagome instructed when the hand on top of Kimiko’s belly suddenly felt the clenching of muscles at the same time Kimiko grunted and gasped from the pain, “and push!” Kimiko immediately stopped the breathing exercise and grunted, straining softly as Kagome had instructed earlier. “Breathe!” Kagome barked and Kimiko allowed herself to rest and leaned back into her mate, who resumed the breathing exercise with her.

“You’re doing so well…” He whispered, brushing hair from her face and wiping tears from her eyes. She smiled up at him, her finger’s clenched at his shoulders. “Breathe Kimiko-san.” Kagome barked softly, aware that Kimiko had stopped the exercise, without looking and still trying to safety maneuver the newborn from its sheath.

“Push.” Kagome instructed and Kimoko obeyed, and so it went for another twenty minutes until a piercing infant cry broke the repetitive sounds, “Inuyasha!” Kagome barked even as her face remained serene as she wiped the crying newborn with a damp rag. Instantly the hanyou appeared behind her, “Take the baby and kneel on the other side of Kimiko; clean her.” Inuyasha knelt and hesitantly open his arms, “Kagome, I -.”

“it’s alright Inuyasha,” The girls eyes telegraphed a trust and a love that the hanyou was unable to dispute, and gently he took the newborn who looked up at him from a face covered in slick fur, with eyes the color of starlight. Awed he moved to kneel beside Kimiko’s hips as the world slowed almost to a crawl around him, Kimiko’s continued grunts and breathing, Kagome’s quick and sharp instructions, all faded into the back of his mind as his world zeroed in on the infantile creature in his arms, still slick and warm with a dark little nub, bent over and clamped at its navel. Slowly he began to whip blood and mucus from crumpled ears with a delicacy he was unaware he had. Before he was ready Kagome swiftly but with a precise delicacy and seamless movements, she switched his arms for another child and he found himself in a daze all over again as this time eyes of ocher glared up at him defiantly, with fur black and slick from afterbirth.

“You’re going to be a fighter,” Inuyasha observed, as the pup latched onto the corner of the cloth and gnawed a victorious squawk.

Kagome eased the cleaned infant into the arms of the mother, “She’s beautiful.”
