The Fairest of Them All

Disclaimer: Though it saddens me to say it, I don’t own anything relating to Takahashi-sensei’s Inuyasha. However, the plot of this drabble series does belong to me as well as any OCs that may show up along the way.

A/N: Unlike BOAF, this won’t have a specific quota. Each chapter (drabble) will be at least 400 words though. And if you haven’t done so already, you can take a peek at my LJ for announcements about new updates and such. The link is on my profile. :)

Chapter 2: The Fairest of Them All

Sesshoumaru gazed at his reflection in the lake, turning his head this way and that, inspecting his face from every angle.

Arrogant. That’s what the wretch had called him.

He gave an undignified snort.

Of course he was. There was no youkai greater than he – in power or in appearance. He was perfection personified. Who else would he hold in higher regard than himself?

Carmine orbs narrowed, his image in the water mirroring the slight movement.

He was flawless…even in his present form.

Lazily, his eyes traced a path over deadly claws and up his broad chest to his jawline. The proud markings of his heritage still graced his features – a pair of magenta stripes adorned each cheek and a Prussian blue crescent moon kissed his forehead. In his opinion, these allowed him to at least retain a semblance of dignity as well as a measure of great importance.

The large ruff of fur that was always customarily draped over his shoulder made him even more intimidating than he appeared to be. It would serve as a reminder to those who would dismiss him as anything less than the predator he truly was.

Sesshoumaru was an inu-youkai, not a common dog – a mutt – that begged for worthless scraps of food from the hands of filthy humans. He was still the Lord of the West, and he would make sure the lesser beings remembered that.

Lips curling into a snarl, he glanced at the sword he had dropped on the ground beside him.

“Tenseiga,” it was called. How he knew that, he wasn’t entirely sure. When he had awoken earlier, a pulse had coursed through his body and its name had been whispered into his ears. The only reason he bothered to take it with him was because he felt the enormous amount of power swirling within it. Had he been in his glamoured form, he would have loved to test out its potential. Alas, in his current situation, he didn’t know when he would get that opportunity, if ever.

His life had gone downhill ever since he had met that treacherous woman – if one could call her that. As far as he was concerned, the witch had placed a curse on him and fled like a coward. He only knew that he would never be satisfied until she suffered a tragic death or her neck was crushed between his jaws.

As long as she met her end, he didn’t care, but he would personally prefer securing his revenge himself.
