Petite Problems

Chapter Thirty-Four: Fragrant

x . . . . x

Kagome looked at the boy that was a year older than her and though she wanted to tell him to go away and leave her alone she didn’t want to be rude. Sessmuru and Mama didn’t abide rudeness but he was steadily closing in on her and...

His arms were there!

Wrapped around her.

It was odd being held by a male other than her family and her friends.

This wasn’t someone she knew well but he had confessed – or something like it and what was - oh! He had on some type of odd perfume on and he had definitely sprayed too much.

Wriggling from his grasp, Kagome looked at the boy – Haku – and offered him her brightest smile.

“I’m sorry, Haku-san, I don’t know you and well… I’m not going to be your girlfriend.”

The boy immediately was crestfallen and as stubborn tears gathered in his eyes he asked, “Why?”

Kagome’s young heart pattered in her chest and she looked down, blush flowing across her cheeks.

“There – there is…” she paused trying to define Sesshoumaru and she finally shrugged, blush blooming deeper. “…someone else.”

.

Kagome wasn’t stupid.

She was going to be twelve soon.

She understood that she liked her best friend a little too much.

He had been there her entire life but it was hard to look at him as a father figure or brother.

Her friends had definitely been teasing her mercilessly, reminding her of a day long ago - “He’s not that good looking – I’m marrying Sessmuru anyway!” – at a trip to Tokyo Disney and definitely made her think.

She didn’t really like the boys her age and- and-

“Kagome! Sesshoumaru-sama is here to take you to dinner!”

Her heart thumped erratically in her chest and she quickly put in her prettiest barrette, fixed her ruffled dress, and sprayed her best perfume very lightly.

She quickly ran downstairs and stopped at the bottom, looking for her long-time companion. He was there, dressed impeccably, and she walked toward him trying not look rushed. He gazed down at her, his oddly colored eyes bright and his lips curving into a hint of a smile. He opened his arms to her and she gave up all pretenses of being a lady and ran into his arms. He hugged her tight and his nose sniffed delicately at her hair.

Carefully looking at the young girl, Sesshoumaru questioned, his voice low and curious, “You are very… fragrant today.” Brows crinkled, Kagome offered him a questioning look to which the taiyoukai in disguise clarified, “Your scent is sweet.”

Kagome blushed and looked down at her shoes as she backed away from Sesshoumaru, “I-I uh… sprayed a new p-perfume.”

Lips curling downward, he took another deep breath and murmured, “Yes – it was quite lovely but there is something… else.” Nostrils flaring, Sesshoumaru’s citrine hues were a tad darker, not that Kagome could tell and then finally… he pinned the scent that clung to her skin and he –

Oh.

Oh.

It was a boy’s scent.

Lip curling downward and crossing his arms over his chest he looked to Kun-loon and his brows furrowed, “Have you discussed with her the intricacies of males and females?”

Shaking her head she informed him, “The school officials usually have the ‘talk’ in the spring of this year for the older children.”

Sesshoumaru turned his searching gaze back on Kagome and she returned it steadily, “Do you have a special male friend?” he questioned, something deep and primal forcing him to find out what the foreign scent was.

Arms behind her back, and leaning back and forth on the ball of heels she tilted her head to the side and asked slowly, “Like a boyfriend?” There was a sharp nod and Kagome blushed quickly, stammering, “N-no! A b-boy asked me today a-and I guess he thought I’d say yes because he w-was popular so he um- he hugged me but I t-turned him down.”

There was an imperceptible relaxing of Sesshoumaru’s tense shoulders and Kun-loon had to giggle at the taiyoukai’s predicament and knowing just how to fix it. She knelt down beside Kagome and placed a hand on her shoulder before soundly stating in her best ‘mommy-voice’, “Kagome, dear, no boyfriends until Highschool, okay? Unless we talk about it because any time before that is too young.”

With a quick nod of her head, Kagome replied, “Alright, mommy. No boyfriends.”

Sesshoumaru silently agreed.

If he was in a fix because of a foreign scent interrupting her natural fragrance he couldn’t imagine the havoc of her going on little dates.

He shuddered at the thought.

‘Gome Yuki:: Poor Sesshoumaru. The troubles of going through your love interest’s childhood. This is not a Lolita/lolicon fic. There will be no hints of sex or want or need or anything like that. The most you will see is what just occurred. A reassurance to his primal nature or something and not because out of desire but just because of instinct. Nothing will happen until about the time she drops into the well. Thank you dso much for all the lovely reviews guys! I really appreciate it! (: Let me know what you though of Sesshoumaru vs. Boys!
