Petite Problems

Chapter Thirty-One: Hairstyling

x . . . . x

Part I: Introduction

After a promise broken to a little girl by a taiyoukai, said taiyoukai was on his absolute best behavior. Not that anyone could really tell.

When Kagome needed a new pair of shoes -her old ones were beginning to pinch- Sesshoumaru took her to the store for a new pair… or five.

When Kagome was stuck on math, Sesshoumaru was there that following weekend dressed in casual clothing to dedicate his day to help.

When Kagome asked if they could play ‘Salon’, Sesshoumaru – with no idea what he was getting into – simply allowed the little miko to gather her toys.

.

Part II: Salon

Kagome called to Sesshoumaru from her bedroom upstairs and with a weary sigh he trekked toward her.

He opened the little miko’s door and was immediately greeted by Kagome whom grabbed his hand in hers and smiled, “Welcome to my salon! You look like you need a wash and a bit of styling!”  Her cerulean hues were bright and smile brighter as she ushered him to the middle of the room and sat him on a small chair.

She tilted his head over the back and he blanched the moment he felt his hair touch a large basin of water.

.

Part III: Condition (Prompt):

A smaller bucket doused his hair and Kagome was sure to place a towel on his shoulders before she started. She hummed and soon the scent of apple filled his nose, followed by the squeeze of a bottle.

Her little hands with their chipped, bright pink nail polish, massaged his scalp, and despite his initial trepidation, it was a pleasant and soothing experience.

“Alright, sir! Now the conditioner!” she stated happily, her fingers running through his locks and using another bottle of apple scented goodness. With a hum of his own, his eyes closed and let Kagome take the reins.

.

Part IV: Brush (Prompt)

When she was done shampooing and conditioning, she then used another towel and dried his hair as best she could. It took a little while, and she had to change the water, but afterwards, she took out a brush and set to work on the length of silver set before her.

There were very few tangles and when she encountered them, her small hands were absolutely careful and she brushed and she brushed and she brushed. She parted his hair into several large sections and tackled each one thoroughly, leaving Sesshoumaru to simply bask and enjoy the attention she provided.

.

Part V: Shine (Prompt)

Kagome’s happy humming alternated between inane ‘salon chatter’ and ‘salon noises’. She sprayed leave-in conditioner and watched as Sesshoumaru’s hair shined. She made happy little noises and soon quickly lost track of the game and took to just running her hands through his hair.

After several minutes of silence she finally whispered, “Your hair shines like moonlight.”

To which Sesshoumaru easily and smoothly responded, sacrificing just a little bit of pride, “Only because I have the best hairstylist.”

This, of course, left Kagome in giggles.

Sesshoumaru had decided a long time ago that a little pride was worth Kagome’s happiness.

.

Part VI: Ponytail (Prompt)

Kagome gathered Sesshoumaru’s thick hair into her hands and placed it a low ponytail, using a golden band that she decided matched his eyes. She ran the brush through it several times at the bottom of the ponytail, ensuring that there were no tangles, and was content with a job well done.

“Well sir, you’re done! Please let me know what you think!” she handed him a small mirror and Sesshoumaru made a show of looking at his hair, and running his fingers through the ponytail.

Sesshoumaru nodded at Kagome and informed her, “It is acceptable.”

Her smile only widened.

.

Part VII: Card

Sesshoumaru made a move to stand but Kagom stopped him with a hand on his arm, “If you decide to come again, here is my card!” she dug around a little drawer to the side and returned with a homemade card that her name on it and several small pictures of hairbrushes and combs.

He graciously accepted the card and tucked it into his wallet, gently murmuring, “We’ll see.” Sesshoumaru then looked at her through narrowed citrine hues. “Do I need an appointment?”

Kagome shook her head enthusiastically, “Never for you!”

And then she launched herself into his awaiting arms.
