We hadn’t met the infamous Lord Sesshomaru yet and I felt grateful for that. Perhaps, the heavens were trying to appease me since they gave me hell on the first day here in the West. Or, maybe, it was just pure luck. Either way, I still felt extremely grateful. I already felt like a whore coming here to present myself to a dog stranger and I even had to prove myself a good whore. Wasn’t that what we were? A whore, a trophy mate, and a plaything.

Rising from my bed, I replayed the events of the night before. A golden-eyed youkai with tremendous power, he must be a relative of the Lord of the West since he shared the iconic golden eyes and silver hair like Lord Toga. Kami, he is an addition to my long list of enemies that wanted me so dead. I need to be extra careful.

Throwing a simple gown with the color of the sun, I brushed my hair quickly, not bothering to style it in any way. After looking at the mirror and deciding that I looked decent enough, I padded down the hallway towards the dining room but I could reach it, I saw the palace garden again.

Beautiful.

Enthralled, I went outside and relished the smell of the flowers surrounding me as well as the warmth of the sun on my skin.

"Beautiful."

I jumped a little and turned my head to the voice I heard beside me.

"Forgive me, have I startled you?" Lord Toga asked kindly but a touch of teasing was visible on his face.

"It's okay. I was just a little distracted so I didn't feel you coming," I explained, shrugging but smiling softly at him.

"Truthfully, I am quite distracted too."

"Why?"

"As I said earlier, beautiful."

"Oh yes, you have one of the most beautiful garden I've ever seen!" I exclaimed, glancing around.

"I am not talking about the garden," he said firmly but with a smirk on his lips.

I turned to him again, brows raised in question, "Then what are you talking about?"

"You."

"Me?" I asked incredulously. Before I could stop myself, I laughed and giggled like a lunatic. "You're trying to kill me!" I wrapped my arms around my stomach that was hurting by too much laughter.

"Kill you?" He repeated, looking confused, and he huffed at me. "Just saying the truth, my lady."

"Truth kills." I replied after successfully stopping my hysterical laughter. "But seriously, that was ridiculous."

With a slight frown and a sad disappointment in his eyes, he asked, "Have you no knowledge of your beauty, Lady Kagome?"

I scoffed and rolled my eyes. "Please, my lord, I understand how gracious you can be but this kind of graciousness is not necessary."

He sighed sadly before his small smile and probing eyes, which seemed to see everything, fixed on me, "Let us have some breakfast, my lady. Honestly, we are already late."

"May I have a breakfast here?" I asked hopefully. I'd rather eat with a bunch of flowers than with a bunch of vicious demonesses.

"From what I've heard, my son might visit the dining hall today. Wouldn't you like to meet him?"

I hesitated for a while before deciding that I could trust him. "Does it makes sense that…I don't want to? Not yet anyway. I mean to be honest, I don't know what I'm doing here and I didn't plan all these to happen and…" I took a deep breath. "…I'm a little scared."

"Nothing in life is perfectly planned. I always plan everything but it always goes the other way around."

Father plans everything, too. Except me. I smiled wistfully at him. "Yeah."

"Well, let us set up breakfast here, then. Let me arrange it for us, my lady."

"Us?"

"It would seem a little rude if I let a beautiful girl eat here alone, don't you think?"

Lord Toga and I eat peacefully at the gardens. Afterward, he showed me around the palace, telling me stories that either crack me up or make me feel nostalgic. At lunch, he asked me to eat at one of the towers in the palace. It was exhilarating. During the afternoon, though, he had to leave.

"Someone is seeking my audience, my lady, I have to leave you to fend for yourself," he excused politely.

I smiled, a little sad to see him go. "I had a great time. Thank you, Toga-sama. You're so kind to me unlike everyone else."

He huffed at my drama before walking away but he glanced back, "Lady, Kagome, please do not make any troubles now that I am no longer with you." Then, he went off without a glance.

I laughed softly and decided to go out of the palace to avoid any more troubles.

I'd be back at night. I swore before running quickly towards the Middle Lands.

-Sesshomaru-

I passed by the dining hall as the breakfast of the twenty-four Chosen demonesses commenced, I noticed that one was missing but decided not to ask.

They greeted me in a cultured voice. They curtsied gracefully. They dressed pleasingly. They were all the same. Like the grasses in my garden and I want to plucked them out and throw them in the wind because they were nothing.

My gaze wandered on each of their faces, and they looked the way a highborn demoness should look. The entire breakfast was filled with flatteries, unsuccessful seduction, and clashes of auras between some of them. It was…dull.

The dullness was like an avalanche trying to bury all my patience hundreds of feet down. My infamous control slipping away and a certain hanyou partake in this problem. Mostly, though, it was the thought of mating that had me on edge for weeks.

Mating reminded me of Mother and the thought of her left a bitter taste in my tongue the way the face of my Father did.

After the dull breakfast and an even duller lunch, I left. I flew and flew and flew until I found myself wanting to visit Mother’s castle in the sky but was stopped by the sight of the hanyou jumping from the tip of a tree to another.

I lowered my cloud to the ground and jumped next to her. She startled a little and assumed a defensive stance. I had to admit that I had a little respect for the girl, she managed to fight me off last night and she did not flinch at the sight of me today. Interesting. Sometimes, she does flinch but it was always short-lived. She fears, and yet she fights. She shrinks back, and yet she defiantly pushes back. Her initial reserve would always give way, revealing a dauntless person.

She jumped down from the tree, growling and crouching. I just stared and decided to play some games with her. "Hanyou."

"Youkai. By the Gods, you again." She sounded completely annoyed with me. Remarkable.

"Hnn." I said, the crackle of the power beneath those delicate hanyou skin of hers distracted me. How could she possess such power when she is only a hanyou?

"Just leave me alone, okay?" She said, raising both her hands in front of her as if to keep me away. "I mean, if I did something last night or the other day, just forget it. You were trying to kill me so I did what I did to protect myself. I'm really, really tired of your kidnapping escapades, killing escapades, and any of your escapades!" She raised her voice at the last part of her little tirade.

Hnn. The hanyou is a chatterer. But, she must really be angry with everything that transpired last night.

"Well, aren't you going to say anything?" She asked as she crossed her arms under her chest.

"This one doesn’t talk to a lowly creature such as you," I replied just to get a rise out of her. Killing her depended on the outcome of this ridiculous encounter but then, killing her would eliminate the limited means of distractions I had while the Chosen demonesses were staying in the palace.

"You just did,” she scoffed, rolling her eyes. I almost got angry for being disrespected, and I wondered if she didn’t really know me.

"You do not know who you are talking to," I reprimanded but my heart—if I ever had one—was not into it. However, my deep and practiced cold voice was usually enough to make others fear…but not her. Of course, she wouldn't fear. She only flinches away when I releases my youki. But then, I released a lot of energy last night but she managed to fight back. It seemed like fear becomes her strength.

"You're right. I do not know whom I'm talking to. Care to introduce yourself? Are you a mercenary, ice prince with a stick in his ass or just a complete lunatic?" Feisty hanyou.

I narrowed my eyes and took a step forward.

She took a step back, placating me by ranting. "I have a guess, though. You must be the Lord of the Western Lands' relative. I mean you have that iconic golden eyes and silver hair so…"

Observant hanyou. "Title is enough. Address me as Lord."

She scoffed. Again. "Whatever. Ya know what? I really need to go so…" She smirked. "…see you around Lord."

Then, she was gone. Again.

Ridiculously, I found myself following the trail she left in her wake and later, found myself in the market just outside the Middle Lands where everything was sold in the cheapest of prices.

Concealing my aura, I searched for her. As I walked around, I garnered attention, probably from my clothing, my silver hair, and golden eyes but most of them did not know who my identity. Not exactly.

"Wow! This necklace is beautiful!" The hanyou's voice reached my ears and I followed it.

The girl she was talking to saw me first, she stared at me open mouthed, and with wide eyes.

"You. Again. You've officially became my stalker," the hanyou scolded, her lips set into a thin line. “You know you can be scary but after last night? My hate for you seemed to override all those scary factors.”

I almost smiled at her expression but managed to remain in control. "Show some respect," I admonished lightly.

Rolling her eyes, she bid good-bye to the girl and started to walk away, completely ignoring me.

Ignoring me.

Ridiculous.

"Are you going to follow me all day?" She asked when she realized that I was still behind her.

"I am not following you."

"Yes, you are."

"I am merely making certain that you do not escape again."

"I thought we are past that by now. We can confront each other later. I still have to go somewhere."

"Where?"

"There in the Middle Lands, just a few steps away. I'm sure you do not wish to go there."

"You do not know what I wish to do."

"Uhm…okay? What do you wish to do then?"

Know your name. I almost said but restrained myself. Asking her name would be ridiculous. But then, everything that happened today was ridiculous. So, I asked, "Your name. What is it?"

She turned to look at me, fixing her bright blue eyes at me. "Why do you wish to know that?"

"My reasons are my own."

She smiled, her eyes swirling with emotions I couldn't fathom. "My name is my own."

A small smile almost tugged at my lips but I managed to restrain it. I was fairly certain my usually stoic eyes showed some amusement. "Very well, Own."

She pretended to choke and gasp wildly. "Have the Great Lord who is relative to the Great Inu-Youkai clan of the West just joked? Wow. This should be written in the history books."

I do not know what to reply, instead, I brushed past her towards the Middle Lands.

"Hey! Ya know what, how about we become friends?"

"No."

"No? How about enemies? You're good at being my enemy. Ya see, as my enemy, you've been with me the entire afternoon."

"We are enemies."

"Alright, enemy. Let's go to the Middle. Let me show you this sculpture I've made two years ago…" she started to blabber on and on and on about this, that, and everything else but mostly, I listened to her voice and ridiculously, it calmed me.
