Prompt: Priestess Skye’s Prompts – Hero (req’d free, actual 316)

AN: Several months later, Kagome is very pregnant.

“Shippo told me.”

Kagome carefully focused on scraping every bit of sundae from her bowl. She really wanted to enjoy her double chocolate fudge sundae. Sesshoumaru had become paranoid about her diet after her last pre-natal appointment. Kagome refused to believe she was putting on too much weight. She ate plenty of chocolate in the first few months. Besides most of her weight was water! Defiantly she popped the illicit treat in her mouth before looking up to meet Eri’s resolute expression.

“Told you what?” she asked carelessly.

“That he’s really a youkai. Like your husband. Or more accurately your mate,” Eri corrected herself absently before frowning, displeased. “Why didn’t you tell me?!?”

Kagome arched a brow. “Would you have believed me?”

Eri fumed but subsided because she knew the answer to that question: No.

“Well I know now.” Her expression shifted to one Kagome was not quite used to seeing on modern day humans, one of awed respect. “He also told me you’re a real miko. That you were never sick, you travelled back into the past to fight a real evil youkai.”

Kagome shifted uncomfortably. “I didn’t have much of a choice. Naraku was out to kill me and everyone around.”

“No,” Eri corrected firmly. “You had a choice. You could have stayed in the present and let others handle it.” Her expression turned dewy. “You’re a real life hero! Well a heroine.”

Kagome waved the hand holding the spoon. “We all had our own parts. We were all heroes.”

“Tell me,” Eri urged her companion. “Tell me in your own words. What was it like?”

“It’s a long story!” Kagome protested.

“Over dinner. I’ll cook oden,” Eri offered. “Using my mother’s secret recipe,” she added in a coaxing voice.

Kagome hesitated but the lure of oden won out. “Okay. Just let me call Sesshoumaru and let him know I’m going to be late.”
