~ooO Dolphin Ooo~

Eri pressed the button to take several photos in quick succession. There would be better quality professional photos sent out after the wedding but right now she could not resist taking a few pics on her cell camera. Kagome and her husband looked perfect! And she wanted to have some proof for her blog.

Satisfied she lowered the camera and played with the soft felt charm dangling from one corner on knotted black silk cord. It was a cartoonish blue dolphin with a white belly, rather childish for an adult woman but Eri loved the accessory. She’d had it since high school and she refused to give it up!

“They look good, don’t they?”

The young woman started but managed to not scream. When she looked over her shoulder she was glad she didn’t. It was the gorgeous red-head who stood up with Kagome’s new husband. What was his name? Something Shippo. Eri had been too busy gawking during the introductions and too shy to ask for his name afterwards.

“They do,” she confirmed with a wistful smile. “I just wish I had someone who loved me even a fraction as much as he loves Kagome.”

The red-head looked surprised by her words. “Only a fraction? Not the same?”

Eri shook her head firmly. “That would be greedy.” Then her expression turned thoughtful. “And I have the feeling they underwent many trials before this point. I know they were separated for a while and it affected Kagome very badly. I’m not sure I would have the same strength to endure as she did.”

The red-head smiled faintly. “You are right. But their story is different. You do not need to follow the same path to have a great love.”

Eri laughed. “I can wish but I doubt it will ever happen to me.”

He gave her an intense look. “You never know. Your great love might be standing just a few feet away.” That made her stop and look at him surprised. He smiled and held out a hand. “Dance with me Yamamoto-san?”

“Eri,” she corrected faintly.

“Dance with me Eri-san?”

Unable to resist, Eri placed her hand in his and said, “Yes.”

On the other side of the room the bride and groom watched their adoptive son guide the bride’s friend onto the dance floor.

“Is he being polite?” she wanted to know.

Cool citrine eyes examined the scene before turning to the woman in his arms. “I do not believe so.”

“How can you tell?” she asked.

“Shippo is good at making his companions feel comfortable, telling jokes and making them smile. But now he is silent and distracted.”

“What do you mean?”

“His youkai senses are categorizing and examining all the aspects he can get away with.”

She wrinkled her nose. “He’s going to lick her isn’t he.” It was more of a statement than question.

“Yes.”

“So he’s serious about her?”

“I believe so. He must have controlled his instincts to not disrupt the ceremony.”

Kagome sighed. “Well, it will be a little odd having Eri as a daughter-in-law but I’ll manage.”

TBC…

AN: The bit with Shippo and Eri just snuck in there. Had nothing to do with it (whistles)
