They lay curled up against each other. He had pleasured her many times in the past hours, whispering of his need and desire and love. Even though they were already mated he wanted to marry her before her family and friends, to make it very clear to all that they were committed to each other. Kagome had no issues with that. Like most girls she had very fixed ideas about the type of wedding she wanted and was very pleased Sesshoumaru was willing to accommodate her.

Absently she began playing with a lock of silver hair, brushing it against her cheek. His hair was shorter now, only to his hips, but it was still thick and silky smooth. It had been so long since she got to curl up against him like this, centuries for her mate. The thought sobered her. Then something else struck her.

“What happened to InuYasha?”

“He is dead.”

Kagome hit her mate with a small clenched fist. He barely reacted. “I mean before he died!”

“He mated a mori-youkai.”

Kagome turned on her belly so she could look directly at her mate. “Like Bokusenou?”

Sesshoumaru frowned. “Not exactly. Hisana was a plant-youkai. She could manipulate her limbs and hair like vine creepers. Or root herself into the earth to sleep or heal.”

Kagome was intrigued by the description. “How did InuYasha meet her?”

Sesshoumaru snorted softly. “She rescued him.”

“What?!”

“She rescued him from a kuro-miko that separated him from Tessaiga.”

“Oh no!”

“He lost control and went on a rampage. Hisana bound him with her vines long enough to knock him out with her narcotic pollen.” Sesshoumaru smirked. “He was not very happy.”

“What was she like?”

“Very patient and calm, like the land. When they mated, it stabilized his blood and extended his lifespan. He died less than a year after Hisana was killed in Nagasaki.”

“Did they have any children?”

“Two daughters. Both are mated, one to Kagura’s grandson, the other to a captain in my household.”

Kagome was silent, absorbing the information. Finally she asked, “Did he love her?”

Sesshoumaru thought hard. “I believe so.”

Kagome rested her head against his chest and murmured, “Then I’m glad.” And she was. Because InuYasha had found his own happiness.
