Riku Ryuu's Prompt - Action

~ooO Action Ooo~

Kagome stared into the flickering flames. She could hear the others moving slightly, restlessly and pretended to be unaware of their excessive energy. She didn’t fault them for their nerves. It was after all the eve before the Final Battle.

Every single step they had taken, every fight fought, every enemy beaten, every encounter had, every small clash, it had all built, cumulated to this moment, to what would happen tomorrow, the Final Battle against Naraku. And he was completely unaware of it.

Blue eyes gleamed with savage pleasure as the miko contemplated the possibilities. Kagura had confirmed Naraku was blind, his usual spying methods failing, a side effect of the mating bond between herself and Sesshoumaru. An unexpected boon they were quick to take advantage of. Sesshoumaru had pushed to bring forward the battle date. It had taken a lot of effort but eventually they had succeeded. All around this clearing were smaller camps of allies scattered and waiting for tomorrow, for battle.

InuYasha cursed and yelled at Shippo. The kitsune yelped and darted away from the hanyou’s first. Usually Kagome would interfere but this time she didn’t. InuYasha needed to work off some of his excessive energy and hopefully this would help.

There was a sharp slapping sound of flesh on flesh. Miroku was being a pervert again. Sure enough the monk was lying sprawled out on the grass with a hand-shaped bruise on his cheek. Kagome could understand, the monk was desperate for some action, but surely he’d have learnt by now his usual tactics would not work on Sango?!? Or maybe he was a masochist? Kagome pondered on the idea and laughed out loud, at the image of Sango dressed as a dominatrix in a skimpy black leather outfit, flicking a whip at Miroku.

“Kagome?”

She looked up at her mate and smiled. “Just a funny thought,” she said. And she waited until her mate sat down beside her. “How are you feeling?” He raised a disdainful eyebrow. “Of course. You aren’t affected by nerves like the rest of us ordinary mortals.”

He tilted his head. “Your scent is clear of uncertainty.”

Kagome nodded. “I’m not nervous. Being nervous is not going to help. I’ve learnt that after all these months. But everyone else is. They know if we don’t win tomorrow the chances for losses are huge.” Her lips turned down at the corners. “I don’t want to loose anyone.”

“Then you will fight and end this.”

Kagome met his eyes without flinching and mirrored his stern unyielding expression. “Yes.”
