Eri was very grateful for the retractable straw in her water bottle. It allowed her to drink and examine Kagome at the same time. Kagome was an enigma, had been for a while now, ever since that accident in the shrine wellhouse. For a while Eri had strongly considered the possibility of her friend being cursed – no one could have all those sicknesses without even once being hospitalized! Eri had visited the Shrine and spoken to Kagome’s mother who had firmly but gently put her off. After that Eri mentally filed Kagome’s absences under family matters and didn’t ask questions no matter how badly she wanted to know. But she had seen how badly Kagome was being affected by whatever was happening.

She had been stressed, down and badly depressed at times. Mostly due to the ups and downs in her relationship with that nasty rude boy InuYasha. Eri had practically seen the crash coming when Kagome had confided that the ex had returned, and that InuYasha still had feelings for her. After that Kagome had smiled but always never with her former vibrance, old hurts and pains had always shadowed her eyes. Eri and the other girls had tried to set Kagome up with another boyfriend. Unfortunately the only candidate who was willing to put up with Kagome’s long absences was Hojo, a nice boy but not the best fit for Kagome, but they had been desperate to make their friend happy. It hadn’t worked out. But now… but now something had changed.

Kagome was looking positively vibrant. Eri sipped her apple juice but continued to watch Kagome listen to Yuka’s graphic descriptions about her sexual activities with her latest guy. All of them but Kagome had boyfriends but Yuka was the only one bold enough to ‘experiment’ in less conventional intimacies. Kagome was smiling faintly and listening intently without the hot blushes and awkward expressions Eri had expected from a virgin. In fact, from her occasional wicked smirk and knowing looks, Eri suspected Kagome was biting back her comments on Yuka’s experiences. In fact she looked like she wanted to correct Yuka’s description on the best way to give a guy a blow job.

Unable to stop herself, Eri blurted out, “Who is he Kagome?”

Kagome blinked surprised and taken aback by Eri’s question. “Who’s who?”

“The guy, whoever’s made you happy enough to really smile again.”
