They had finished lunch, the clean-up and packing, and were just about to hit the trail when Kagome stiffened feeling a familiar sensations.

“Two shards,” she announced.

InuYasha cursed and hit a tree hard enough to make leaves fall.

Sesshoumaru lifted his nose and inhaled shallowly. “Ookami,” he announced.

“Kouga,” Shippo announced at Rin’s questioning look.

And sure enough the ookami-youkai appeared in a small tornado of dust.

“Hey there dog-turd! How’s my woman?”

InuYasha opened his mouth to yell then shut it with an evil look. “Hey there you smelly wolf, your so-called woman is a cheating bitch.”

Kouga looked baffled. “Wha-?”

And Kagome snapped. “I’m not cheating on anyone,” she said in a very hard cold tone. Both males looked at her with disbelieving looks. “I never belonged to either of you. Kouga, I repudiated your claims repeatedly. InuYasha, you were never interested in reciprocating my romantic interest. Do you honestly think I would pine after you forever?” she glared at the hanyou and was dismayed by his glowering look. He clearly had expected her to moon over him even if he had Kikyo. That put the final nail in the coffin of Kagome’s feelings for him. “I'm with Sesshoumaru now. And I will never cheat or betray him.”

“Like you cheated on me? Betrayed me with my own brother?” InuYasha snapped hotly.

Kagome gave him a cold look. “You cheated on me first InuYasha. You always went to Kikyo. That clearly indicated you had no interest in committing to me. I stayed because you were a friend and because I cared. I stayed because I said I wouldn’t leave you and I wanted to support you. But I gave up on the possibility of having a real romantic relationship with you a long time ago.”
