Riku Ryuu's Prompt - Compass

~ooO Compass Ooo~

Bokusenou lowered one of his branches to dangle a flat silver encrusted circle before them. It looked like a palm-sized pendant on a chain. The daiyoukai caught it and examined the device. There were hinges on one side and a clasp on the opposite edge. Some experimentation made it spring open like a clam, to reveal a flat mother-of-pearl surface etched with a circle divided into triangular sections. A slender red arrow spun around the middle before settling and pointing in one particular direction.

“What is this?” Sesshoumaru growled. He did not understand the purpose of the device, or how it worked.

“It’s a compass!” Kagome burst out excitedly. Then she examined the direction the red arrow was pointing in before turning to the mori-youkai with a knowing look. “But this doesn’t point north, does it.” It was more of a statement than a question.

Bokusenou chuckled. “Clever, clever, miko,” he praised her. “And you are correct. This compass will always point towards Naraku, through any barriers or cloaking spells, it will never be fooled by his puppets or illusions.”

Sesshoumaru was baffled. “This arrow always points towards the hanyou?”

“Correct.”

Sesshoumaru was not impressed. “This doesn’t help. He could be hundreds of miles away or just over the next ridge hiding under an illusion barrier.”

Kagome laughed throatily. “Oh but it does Sesshoumaru!” A wicked gleeful smile curved her lips. “Let me tell you about compass triangulation.”
