Bitter Like Chocolate by Midnight Song

Glimmer

Sesshoumaru prided himself on his strength, his ruthlessness, his ability to do what most others were too squeamish to do. Like his plan to do away with her kit, a kind of recompense for the loss of Rin. It frustrated him, no, infuriated him, that there was even a glimmer of similarity between himself and Touzuko. The bastard had killed his daughter and he was sure he would have killed the kit if the small woman before him hadn’t stopped him. Even now, as he thought about, Sesshoumaru wasn’t entirely sure what his intentions had been towards Shippou and that was more of a wake-up call than anything. Doing his best to keep his persona calm and collected, he tuned back in to what she was saying.

“There was a connection between Shippou and me; I don’t know what it was, only that whenever something was wrong with him, I knew. And I knew, that last night in the cabin as I felt his terror racket through me, that Jirōbō had him.” Cupping her hands carefully around the warm ceramic, Kagome studied the dregs as they floated to the top of the dark brown liquid. “There wasn’t a moment’s hesitation in my mind to go to him. I could have never forgiven myself if anything had happened to him.”
