The job interview, at least, had gone well, Kagome thought as she headed towards the exit of the large building. Even a simple secretary job would be valuable with the way the economy had fallen. The shrine needed supplementary income and Kagome, no longer burdened with the past, took it upon herself to get a job that had nothing to do with being a shrine maiden. Besides, she considered, I need to start looking to the future; Mama can't support me in the future.

The small hairs on the back of the priestess's neck began to rise, her skin tingling. The sensation was foreign for but a few seconds., then the truth became clear. There was youki in the air!

Kagome thought herself crazy for a moment, and felt the need to stop and take in a deep breath of air. As she exhaled, her ears caught the sounds of one of the oddest conversations she had heard in several years.

“Come on now, Maru-chan, you can't still be mad. It's been years now, and it's not like anyone gets the joke. Just me,” the voice finished slyly. The voices were getting louder and the youki stronger, until they were just around the corner from the frozen Kagome. All the muscles in her body tightened up in stress, still somewhat unbelieving that there were relics of her past just around the corner from her.

“Do. Not. Call me that. For the last time. I will not be so forgiving next time, mutt.”

“Who're you calling mutt, jackass?”

“The only one I see in front of me,” the cold voice commented lightly, taunting the other.

“That's it! I can't stand you anymore. Now, I'm going to teach you a lesson.”

Her curiosity was going to be the death of her, she just knew it. Not that any of those morbid thoughts kept her from peering cautiously around the corner. As the full blast of youki hit her, she witnessed something that shocked her to the core. Two people she never imagined seeing again were in the hallway, at each other's throats. The miko was sure that a fight was about to happen.

Kagome looked around her, confirming that the hallways were deserted around them. In a quick flash, the fighting pair was separated by a thin barrier. They looked at each other in confusion. Steeling herself with a deep breath, Kagome stepped around the corner.

“K-Kagome?” the familiar voice called out.

“Inuyasha. Sesshoumaru,” she said evenly, doing her best to let no emotion escape her. The brothers looked wide-eyed between them, their human guises doing nothing to conceal their familiarity from Kagome.

“But how?” Sesshoumaru wondered, eying her intensely. It had been years since he had encountered a good puzzle.

“It's a long story,” she said, a faint smile playing on her lips. That wistful expression soon changed as she redirected the conversation. “Now, why were you fighting?”

“Well, you see-” Inuyasha started. Sesshoumaru quickly cut him off.

“Do not, Inuyasha,” he hissed. Kagome thought she was imagining the slight pink tinge to his cheeks. After all, Sesshoumaru didn't blush, right?

“Why can't I know?” she inquired of the two still separated by her barrier.

“He's embarassed, that's all,” Inuyasha stated flippantly.

Kagome looked at him knowingly. “What did you do, Inuyasha?”

“Well,” he started, eyes shifting all around the room, “it was just supposed to be a joke.”

She waited patiently. He huffed in frustration.

“What is the name of this company, Kagome?” he asked with a smirk.

“Maruchan,” she responded, confused. Sesshoumaru groaned and hid his face, while Inuyasha just looked at her until she got it. Her peals of laughter echoed throughout the hallway.

“Haha, very cute, Inuyasha,” she commented at the end of her laughing fit, wiping tears from her eyes, “But I think the joke's on you.”

The disguised hanyou looked at her oddly, waiting for an explanation. She just giggled a little more. Sesshoumaru looked interested. Anything to get his brother to stop.

“So, let me get this straight. You named you favorite food after an affectionate, though somewhat demeaning, name for you brother?” Her peals of laughter rang through the halls again as Inuyasha's eyes widened in horror. He spluttered nonsensically for several minutes.

Sesshoumaru, in the meantime, capitalized on his younger brother's embarrassment and invited Kagome to lunch.

“I'd love to, Sesshoumaru,” she said with a bright smile.

Inuyasha never quite recovered from what he had done by mistake.

I hope you all enjoyed this little piece of craziness that came out of my mind. Seriously though, Maruchan ramen. I can't be the only on who has ever though of this.

I hope you enjoyed!
