“Sesshoumaru, I need the Tuna Roll for table three!” Kagome shouted in passing as she rushed into the kitchen, quickly preparing a few servings of the complimentary Miso Soup and House Salad before speeding out of the kitchen.

She threw a quick glance in Sesshoumaru’s direction as she passed by him again. His motions were quick as he molded the rolls into perfect form; his eyebrows furrowed in pure concentration. Kagome’s eyes skipped over the empty spot where Sesshoumaru’s assistant would have been, had he not called out sick, and landed on Rin, who could only stare at her father in concern.

As a manager, Rin did not have the abilities to assist a chef when they were short-handed and if they were to continue at their current pace - with Sesshoumaru making sushi for the entire restaurant - there were bound to be a lot of angry customers.

“Sesshoumaru! Tuna Roll! Table Three!” Kagome emphasized again. “I need it as soon as possible!”

His golden eyes flickered up to meet hers, narrowing slightly in barely concealed rage.

“If you need it that badly, then why don’t you make it yourself?” he snapped irritably, knowing he was falling behind and none too pleased about that fact.

Kagome huffed in agitation, quickly considering his words before shoving the tray she had been holding into Rin’s hands and stripped her apron off, tossing it to the side. Putting on the spare chef’s uniform, Kagome stood by his side and peered at his cutting board curiously.

“So... how exactly does this work?”

Sesshoumaru paused mid-movement and stared at her incredulously. Was she serious? The restaurant was packed, he was failing to keep up with orders as it was, and she wanted him to train her? Now?

“This is preposterous,” he hissed, quickly slicing a roll into six even pieces. “Go do your actual job, woman, before you are out of one.”

Kagome stared at him challengingly, daring him to fire her, and when he didn’t respond, she threw him the dazzling but out-of-place smile he absolutely abhorred. She examined his hands, attempting to mimic his motions as she tried to learn the art of sushi through observation only.

Sesshoumaru grunted his annoyance and moved his frame slightly closer to the counter, blocking Kagome’s view. Undeterred, Kagome peered around him and Sesshoumaru quickly moved again, determined to have his way. She stood on tiptoes, hovering close behind him, but he was too tall for her to successfully glimpse over his shoulders.

Thoroughly frustrated, Kagome reached up and yanked on his collar, pulling him back. Hard. Sesshoumaru stumbled, surprise etched upon his face. He angrily whirled around, prepared to lash out, but the words died in his throat when he saw that infuriating smile again.

She wagged a finger at him playfully. “Customers are watching and you’ve got sushi to make, mister.”

Sesshoumaru scowled, reaching for another roll and taking out his frustrations on it.

Kagome was truly going to be the death of him.
