The Mysterious Figure
Thank you to my lovely beta, Stella!

“Here they are, Miss Higurashi.” The lawyer smiled, handing Kagome a stack of papers at least an inch thick.
Kagome looked to them, reaching with a shaky hand towards the lawyer’s outstretched hands.
“Miss Higurashi… I haven’t been called that in a long time.”
“You’re a free woman, Miss Higurashi. Your husband hasn’t attempted to contact you or us in fighting the matter. All that’s left now is for you and him to finalize the divorce by signing these last papers.”
Frowning, Kagome nodded, standing up and shaking the lawyer’s hand.
‘He really let me go? No questions asked?’ Kagome sighed, feeling a little more depressed than what she thought she would. ‘I would have thought he might give a little more of a fight. Perhaps I’m not worth fighting, after all.’
“Thank you for all of your help.” Kagome smiled softly, walking out of the lawyer’s office and back to her car in the parking garage.
She had moved back into Sesshomaru’s home since meeting him outside of the diner a few days back, and he had been avoiding her ever since. She thought he held some affection for her, seeing as he was the one who kissed her in front of everyone. She wouldn’t deny that she enjoyed it, though, and blushed while thinking of the attractive taiyoukai.
She couldn’t help but wonder what was going on between them. He asked her to stay with him, so it was obvious that he wanted her to always be with him. What did that mean, though? Was he just lonely, or did he like her?
‘He’s so complicated… I wish he’d just tell me what he was thinking!’ Kagome groaned, taking out her keys from her purse and pressing the search button twice. Her car chirped, the lights flickering off and on. She saw the lights and headed towards her car, slowly stopping when she saw a figure leaning up against her car.
“Who’s there?” Kagome asked, cautiously gripping her purse and slowly walking towards the car.
The figure chuckled, straightening from their position and flicking their long hair behind their shoulder.
“You must feel so honored that you have a pair of brothers fighting over you. I can’t imagine what that feels like.”
“Actually, no. I’m confused about it all. Who is that? What do you want?” Kagome questioned, feeling a strong aura coming from the unidentified person.
“Hmph. Then that only leaves one question for you, ningen.” The figure snapped, walking towards Kagome, still hidden from the shadows.
“Oh really? Care to explain what I might be asking myself?” Kagome felt her anger rising at the tone of voice the woman was using with her.
The woman, Kagome realized, stepped out of the shadows and kept walking until she was face to face with her. She had ruby eyes with a deep crimson tint, black hair that was level with the middle of her back, and wore a maroon dress that fit her slender form very tightly.
“What are you to Sesshomaru? You’re nothing, that’s what. He would never associate himself with a worthless and disgusting ningen like you. Disappear.” The woman hissed, her gaze hardening as she spoke.
“First of all, whatever happens between Sesshomaru and I is none of your business. Secondly, who in the world are you?!”
The woman threw a card at Kagome, her face reddening as her anger took over. Kagome took the card, reading the name carefully.
“Kagura… Takahashi? So what? You have the same last name, big deal.” Kagome shrugged her shoulders, handing the card back to Kagura. Glaring towards Kagome, Kagura snatched the card back and extended her left hand. Kagome looked to the shining diamond adorning her ring finger, her eyes widening.
“You foolish girl! I’m his wife!”
