Chapter 404: Drifting

It was several days later when Kagome finally opened her eyes.

Shaking off the fog of her extended sleep, a feeling of disappointment washed over her as she woke up alone in Sesshoumaru’s room with only his mokomoko as a companion.

Her mouth felt like cotton. “…Sesshoumaru-sama?” she rasped, forcing his name out between a dry throat and a pair of chapped lips. The simple act of talking hurt. Her tongue felt heavy.

She didn’t understand why he wasn’t there with her. Surely, he didn’t go on another excursion, leaving her at his mother’s again.

Doubt cloaked her in sadness.
