Chapter 399: Quietus

It was like she was only sleeping.

If he ignored the unnatural paleness of her skin and her motionless body, Sesshoumaru could almost pretend that she was still alive. But no matter what he felt, he was not a fool; she had told him so.

Cradling her in his arms, he nosed Kagome’s head gently like he usually did, the scent of her recent death flooding his senses. She was as silent as Rin had been when he’d carried her back from Hell.

It was too quiet, and she…
