Compassion, compassion had never been something Sesshomaru had felt or been given. All his life compassion, even by his own parents, had been seen as a weakness and never utilized. Some may say that him resurrecting the little human child had been an act of compassion, but truth be told, it had been none of it.

It had been a mere act of his curiosity, a trait inherited from his ancestors, that had made him bringing her back to the living. Nonetheless now he found himself for the first time filled with near unrecognizable emotion and even thinking about acting on it.

Having been on his patrol he had encountered the smell of blood and death. The trail had been easily followed to the source and he had wished for nothing other then to remove the assault to his nose. The human woman to his feet was more dead than alive, crushed like grain in the mill, till nothing more was left then a mere remembrance of her former self.

Kagome, who had always fought without fear, yet full of compassion, seemed to have by now been betrayed by those who had been hers. Left behind in open danger, with no hope for rescue. Kneeling down he brushed clotted bangs out of her dull, blue eyes. For a moment they simply looked at each other. He then bent down, picked her up and carried her to the next stream.

Without saying a word he cleaned her wounds, her body and hair. Finally Sesshomaru dressed her in clean clothes and took her with him. She would heal, he would make sure of it. She would heal in both body and soul, then he would help her gain revenge. No, it was no compassion, it was respect. Respect was the better reason.
