“Come on, Kagome.” Amane gently guided her daughter up the sidewalk and to the front door.
A tall, thin woman with a kind smile on her face opened the door. Upon looking down, she exclaimed, “How adorable!”
“Thank you,” Amane said proudly, stroking Kagome’s raven hair with the hand that wasn’t holding Kagome’s tiny, chubby one.
“How old is she?”
“Two. It’s her first Halloween. Last year...she was ill.”
The woman clucked sympathetically, reaching down to put a candy bar in Kagome’s trick-or-treat bag.
“But honestly, a miko costume! How could you have ever thought of it?”
