Chapter 21: The Real Deal

A.N. As I was lying in bed last night contemplating the meaning of life (Sesshomaru, obviously), I realized how much I hated the last chapter and where I left it off. Consider this ‘part two’ of last night’s post before a final post of the night. Since I’m doing an author’s note anyways, I wish to thank you all for the reviews and the reads. Ten thousand! My mind is completely boggled. Blown to smithereens.

The Chosen had never been taken as payment, abducted from shrines by the Kami acting like thieves in the night. They were not dapocaginous, heartless beings; in fact, it was a direct contradiction as to how the Kami were viewed when taking into consideration all they had done for the humans they watched over.

It was, as the Kami of War had said, ridiculous.

“This is how we are perceived? As kidnappers of the spiritually blessed?” Sesshomaru looked down at the babe nestled in his lap. “You are not kidnapped. You are not taken. You are Chosen by the Fates. All of you are vital in the battle against the Kurai Ichi. There is one ningen of power for each Kami: a counterpart that is matched to us in the realm of the Kami, a match that is instantaneous and permanent.

 “But you, anata...” he trailed off, brushing a fine lock made of midnight off Kagome’s forehead. “You are an exception. You are Inuyasha’s Chosen, and you are my Chosen. You need the weapons of many and are the bearer of bad tidings. What comes, little one, that you unite such separate beings of purpose, body, soul, strength, and mind?”
