The Accident

"Bye guys!" Kagome called out one last time, waving as they walked out of Inu-Yasha's loft. "He's going to have the worst hangover tomorrow."

"Hn. Which means he isn't going to be showing up at the office tomorrow." Sesshoumaru said as he wrapped his arm around her waist and pushed the down button for the elevator.

Kagome smiled at her husband, patting his arm lightly. "I'm sure it's nothing you can't handle."

The elevator dinged, silver doors sliding open to let them inside. Sesshoumaru pressed the lobby button as they entered.

"It's still annoying." He groused.

Kagome giggled. "Give him a break, it's his birthday."

The elevator dinged, signaling that they had made it to the lobby. They walked through the lobby and out the doors, their shoes crunching in the snow. The street lights shone down upon them and made the falling snowflakes glow.

They found their car easily, and were soon on their way home.

"It's such a beautiful night." Kagome sighed as they pulled up to a red light and stopped.

"Not a beautiful as you." Sesshoumaru murmured, turning to look at her with a crooked smile.

"Oh hush!"

He leaned over and kissed her gently, his hand cradling the side of her face.

"I love you," She whispered.

It was when he opened his mouth to reply that the headlights of a car behind him caught his eye and he realized that the car was coming on too fast. By then, it was too late.

The other car slammed into the back of their car, flinging them both forward. Sesshoumaru was cushioned by his air bag, but Kagome's failed to deploy, and her head slammed against the dashboard, rendering her unconscious.
