Prompt: Narquois

This drabble was written for Smittee’s Alphabet challenge.

Standard disclaimer applies. I do not own Inuyasha.

Prompt: Narquois - mocking; malicious.

Brow furrowed, Kagome counted her steps as she walked slowly, one foot tracing lines in the sand, the three males looking at her with different degrees of confusion revealed on their faces, Inuyasha muttering something about the intense heat finally taking its toll on her. Finally, as she was within an ambsace of being done, Miroku’s curiosity got the better of him. Clearing his throat dramatically but not getting any attention, he walked up to Kagome, who was now standing on her knees.

“Lady Kagome? May I enquire as to..”

“Shhh.. I am not finished.”

Miroku shut his mouth with a faint click of his teeth, joining the two inus who chose to tend to their weapons.

Wiping away the fainter lines that were no longer needed, Kagome observed the octagon that marked the place of contact. Twisting backwards, she threw her arm up, the stone drawing a swift arc in the air as it landed in the centre of the traced figure. With a pulsating hum and a flickering glow, all disappeared, the men stiffening as power prickled their auras insistently.

“Sorcery?” the monk asked, eyeing Kagome with suspicion.

Not liking his tone, the statement sounding somewhat narquois, the girl looked up to find the monk’s expression to hint at curiosity rather than malice.

‘Perhaps sometimes one sees the expected for the truth.’

Nodding, she stood, shaking the dust of as much as she could. After all, one should keep one’s appearances up in the presence of males, especially one that appeared to be shockingly pristine in comparison to her.

“Yes, but not mine. Now, we wait.”

Will try to update again today :)
