The miko was calm, far too calm in his opinion. She knew something he didn’t. Rather than ask he demanded, “You are hiding something.”

She walked off in the opposite direction, unable to look at him or deny anything. It made him angry. She could lie to her companions. She was through playing games with him.

Grabbing her arm roughly he pulled her close and summoned his youki cloud. When they sped off to join the others he hissed, “I’m watching you.”

The malice in her voice surprised him when she spat out, “I’m not the one who needs rescuing.”
