True to Oneself

Before he could think properly he was out the door and running. The ground beneath his paws gave way as he furiously pushed himself further. He didn’t know where he was headed. He didn’t care. He knew he needed only to get away.

Kagome was dead.

His beast, unable to form any intelligible words howled with remorse.

He had failed.  He’d sworn to Inuyasha he would find another way. But something had forced her hand. And now she was lost. He hadn’t only failed, he’d failed her.

It was a wonder to him how he could only now admit it.
