The Disease by Addy

At First

A/N:  My first fic.  I've been a member of Dokuga for a long time, but I have always bowed out of DDNs and IDDNs, and I've avoided actually writing anything.  Written for r0o's challenge.  Specifics at the bottom.

Kagome ran through the forest, breathing heavily, her kit clutched to her chest.  When she heard a branch crack not far behind her, she tried to run even faster, but only succeeded in tripping over a root.  Without pausing to look behind her, she scrambled up, shielding her child, and began to run again.  She felt for a moment someone grabbing her clothing, before she pulled away to run, almost hitting a tree because her eyes were so blinded by tears.

Her kit lay feverish in her arms, and she could feel her lungs burning.  She hadn’t thought that she could have been able to bring the disease back with her.  Of course, the man chasing her didn’t know about the disease.  He only knew that she was an unaccompanied woman wearing very little.  Her entire camp was too sick for her to be able to call out to them for help, and Shippou was not even aware of his surroundings.

She heard the man stumble, and put on an extra burst of speed as her camp came into view.  She deposited Shippou onto her laid out sleeping bag, and snatched up the bow she had so foolishly left behind.  She pointed an arrow at the part of the forest that he was going to come out of,  and when he came out of the brush, the man drew up short.  Kagome could tell he was drunk, so she was surprised he had been able to pursue her so well.

He began to back away, obviously thinking better of his ‘easy’ target, and ran back into the forest.  Once Kagome was sure he was gone, she lowered her bow, and walked back to where she had left Shippou.  She had thought for sure that the disease wouldn’t, couldn’t, effect full demons, so when Shippou became sick, she had begun to panic and taken him to a nearby village in hopes that it was just a simple cold.

It had been hours before the miko in that village had run all her tests and informed Kagome that Shippou was sick with a disease the miko had never encountered before.  Kagome had hurried to gather up her things and get back to the camp before dark.  It was dusk when she set out from the hut, and a few men were already drunk, and getting a little noisy.  One had started to follow her, and she hadn’t noticed at first.  When she noticed, she sped up, and he had too.  She had hoped that once she was outside the village and in the forest he would turn back, but he hadn’t.

Instead, he had continued to pursue her, and she began to run.  He ran after her, and she ended up nearly being caught by him before she had managed to get back to camp and hold him at arrowpoint.

Her heart still racing at thoughts of the encounter, but she set to tending to her teammates.  Even Inuyasha had been struck down by the disease.  He lay panting under some of Kagome’s extra blankets, and all of the tachi were in the same condition as him.  Except, of course, for Kagome.  She had already lived through the disease unchanged, although she very much doubted that her friends would be as lucky.  Kagome only knew of a handful of people back in her time who had escaped the disease unscathed.

As she wiped the sweat off of Sango’s brow, she heard Inuyasha moan, and jumped up.  She grabbed the closest clean rag she could, and balled it up to use as a gag.  She shoved it into Inuyasha’s mouth before he began to scream and howl in pain, and made sure to tie a rag around his head to keep the gag in place, before pulling the blankets off him and dragging him closer to the edge of camp.  She didn't want him to accidentally shred the blankets with his claws.

She sensed no demons anywhere nearby, and she knew all the stages of the disease.  The screaming was the worst part, but it meant Inuyasha would be better by morning.  He began thrashing, and Kagome hurried to bind his arms and legs to his body to stop him from hurting himself, tears in her eyes.  Almost the second she was done with that, she heart Miroku give a strangled moan, and repeated the process all over again, except she put blankets back on Miroku and Sango.  Kirara lay curled in a ball, and throughout the entire sickness, she had managed to maintain her small form.

Shippou, had gotten the disease later than the rest of the Tachi, somehow.  Since he was so small, however, it was going through his system much more quickly.  She held him tight, and when he began to moan she grabbed the gag she had ready and held him all the tighter.

By the time morning came, Kagome was beyond exhausted, and her eyes here red from crying over what she had accidentally caused.  She had already ungagged and unbound everyone, because about an hour before dawn the thrashing and screaming had ended.  Shippou was the first to awake, and the kit was very confused.

“Mama, what happened?” the fox asked.

She took a deep shudder breath, and looked into the kit’s eyes.

“I accidentally brought a disease from my time back, and it has… changed you.” She said, slowly.  The kit gave her a confused look.

“I feel the same as I did before I got sick, though, mama.”

Kagome was about to tell the kit what had changed when she heard someone waking up, and looked up.

Inuyasha jumped up, and froze.  A loud, feminine screech was heard a moment later. “WHAT THE HELL?!”

In front of Kagome stood a very pissed off, and very female, Inuyasha.

A/N: r0o's Gender Bender challenge!  Gender Bender is my favorite genre EVER!  I love manga and anime of this genre, and I've written fanfiction of this genre before.

A warning though, is that it will still be Kagome/Sesshomaru of course.  And yes, Sesshomaru will also get this disease and its related... consequences.  Don't like, don't read.  Review me!
