Bested by the Beast

Of all the things the Miko had shown him of her world he hated the damnable kitchen the most. There were too many contraptions in there and quite honestly he didn’t understand how she could have survived with the deathly machinery. When he questioned her about it she laughed him off like it was nothing and began the dangerous trek across the tiled floor. She was insane, he decided, and if she were going to risk her life in that room then so be it. He would not sit by and watch.

Today would be oddly different than most others. The Miko had gone to ‘school’ as she had called it. And that left him home alone to fend for himself. Having spent the past two days in her home he knew where everything was and he also knew the only place he could get nourishment was in that same room he refused to visit. He had refused to eat anything for the past 2 days, and by now his insides were roiling with hunger. Listening to his stomach growl at him again he rolled his eyes.

He spared a glance at the wall clock and surmised the Miko had been gone for almost 7 hours. He wasn’t aware how long this ‘school’ she was attending lasted but he was tired of waiting. He could have burned a hole in the door, the way he was glaring at it so forcefully. His stomach began to churn again and he grimaced. To hell with the Miko, this Sesshoumaru will take his chances.

Rising from his spot on the couch he released his poison whip. It offered him some comfort as he poked his head around the kitchen doorframe. Taking small steps across the floor he looked smug, this is not so difficult. Finally stopping in front of the tall silver box he sniffed it experimentally. It smells of a metal I do not recognize. Shrugging his shoulders he reached with his single hand to open the box that housed many of the Miko’s foreign foods.

A blinding light flooded his vision and he snarled and released the door from his grasp. It swung open even more so and Sesshoumaru glowered at it, willing it to obey his silent command. “Extinguish your light, filthy beast.” When nothing happened he flicked his wrist and his whip swiftly shut the door, “I will release you again. You will not blind this Sesshoumaru or I will destroy you.”

Hearing no answer from the metal box he inched his way forward again. Pulling the door ajar slightly he was pleased it seemed to be relatively dark. Upon pulling it open completely the light was released once more and he let out a roar of fury, “You will obey me.”

He opened and closed the door several more times and after coming to the conclusion that it refused to answer him he efficiently tore the door right off the box. The contents spilled out onto the Miko’s kitchen floor but he didn’t care. He was irate that this beast refused to follow his orders.

Fifteen minutes later Kagome opened her front door and called out for Sesshoumaru. Hearing no response she began to worry. I hope he didn’t run off. That’s just what this city needs, and errant youkai going crazy on people. Tossing her school bag on the couch she heard movement in the kitchen. Cautiously, she rounded the corner and couldn’t stop the look of horror that spread across her features.

“What the hell did you do to my refrigerator?!” She screamed at the top of her lungs.

The entire contents of her fridge were displayed haphazardly across her floor. Milk and eggs decorated the cabinets lining the walls. Sesshoumaru stood in the center of it all, pristine as always. “Hn.” He remarked as if it would explain everything.

“Mama is gonna kill me!”

“This beast,” he glared at what was left of the refrigerator evilly, “Did not listen to this Sesshoumaru, thus I disposed of it.”

“What did it do?!” She screeched.

“It refused to stop shining its light at this Sesshoumaru.”

Kagome stared at him dumbly, completely forgetting the trouble she would be in when her family got home, and began to laugh uncontrollably.

“Hn.”
