Kagome followed Sesshomaru out of the bathroom and into her room. He did not walk to the room, but instead floated along in a way that seemed completely creepy to Kagome. She silently wondered what she had eaten the night before that could have caused this kind of a dream.

Instead of stopping, like she expected him to do, he continued towards the door. Kagome watched in awe as Sesshomaru seemed to go right into the wood and disappear instead of opening the door and going through it. Kagome blinked at the solid looking wood, not comprehending what had just happened. A single clawed hand came out of the door and beckoned to her before going back within. Kagome hesitantly moved to the door and pressed her hand to it. Her palm met the cold surface of the wood but nothing else happened.

“Of course I can’t go through doors.” She mumbled to herself and turned the doorknob. The door opened to show that Sesshomaru was waiting in the hallway. Kagome used one of her hands to pinch her arm, just to make sure that this was not a dream. When pain came, she fell back on the idea that he was a hallucination.

“Come.” Sesshomaru said before floating down the hallway. Kagome put both her hands on her head and her fingers pulled on the black strands in frustration. This was just so strange; it could not possibly be real.

“You know what, fine. I might as well make the most of my imagination.” Her hands went back to her side and she ran after the hallucination.

Sesshomaru led her past four doors before turning and floating through one. Kagome paused to open the door before following. Kagome’s eyes widened at the sight before her.

The room’s walls could not be seen past all the bookcases. There were no windows in the room to take wall space either; the only light came from a giant glass chandelier that dripped down from the ceiling and sparkled when she looked at it. When Kagome looked at the shelves, she could see that the books in every color of the rainbow covered the shelves and she could barely make characters from many different languages. In the middle of the room sat a chair and a couch in white that both faced a long coffee table that seemed to be made of glass. A small book sat on the table and Kagome went through all of the steps her mother had taught her for pricing on sight. Her eyes widened even more when she figured that the book could possibly cost more than a hundred dollars. Her eyes lifted from the book and searched for her hallucination.

Sesshomaru stood next to a bookcase, but instead of looking at the books he was watching Kagome.

“Why did you want me to come here?” She asked in confusion. He had told her he was going to answer her questions but the room only gave her more.

Sesshomaru turned back to the book case and pointed to a book. “Take that out.”

Kagome frowned at the demand. Why couldn’t he just get it and give it to her? Instead of questioning in, she moved forward and removed the book from the shelf, one labeled “History of Time”.

There was a loud noise. It sounded like a clock ringing out the hour but it felt much more ominous to Kagome. She spun towards the center of the room and watched with wide eyes as something began to appear. It started like small blurry mists that floated about, gradually piecing together until they became see through people, two dimensional  and not complete, as if draw with quick strokes of an artist’s pencil. Slowly, they gained colors and became as real to Kagome’s eyes as normal people. None of them approached her or did anything that showed that they could see her.

“Page one hundred and four.” Sesshomaru said from next to her. His voice was no different from before, but she could have sworn she heard something that was… off in his tone. “Now.”

Kagome focused her attention on the book in her hands and tried to ignore the people that were appearing around her. She opened the book and flipped to the page Sesshomaru had said. To her surprise, the page held a black and white version of Sesshomaru that was obviously drawn by hand. Words were written next to the sketch and Kagome hurried to read them.

‘Sesshomaru, the fifteenth Lord of the West, is said to have been the fiercest. Though he was a violent lord, Sesshomaru’s reign came with peace for his villagers. Like his father before him, Sesshomaru focused on expanding and protecting his land but he accomplished much more than his sire. Though he was not a fervent supporter of humans, Sesshomaru worked hard to strengthen bonds between Youkai and human villages within his land. Sesshomaru ruled for one hundred years before a new enemy, a man named Naraku, tried to steal his power. It is not clear what happened next, but it is said that they had a ferocious battle that resulted in the loss of both their lives. Others say that Sesshomaru and Naraku joined forces but decided to move to other lands. There is also a rumor that the Shikon no Tama had something to do with their disappearance. The only thing that is for certain is that both men were never heard from again.’

The bottom of the page had a list of different pages that had something to do with something described. Kagome looked to see that there was more information on Naraku on page four hundred and nine.

“Have you finished?” Sesshomaru asked, effectively stopping Kagome from getting caught up in the book.

“Yes, but that didn’t help! While it answered some of my question it mostly confused me. If you disappeared, why are you here now?” Kagome asked, confusion clear in her tone. Sesshomaru did not answer.

Kagome really wanted to go to all of the pages listed at the bottom but there was a rustling of paper that caused her to look up. The people that had appeared in the room were at the book cases, but whenever they tried to pull a book from the shelf it would drop to the floor. They did not see surprised by this, but merely moved on to the next book. Soon the floor around the shelves was covered in books upon books. Kagome frowned at the sight, not liking the idea of books being treated so badly.

She was about to yell at the people when the first book moved. The pages flipped to one side and slowly fanned to the back, as if someone was trying to get to a certain page. As the pages went past, little black words started to rise from the book in a line. Kagome wanted to move towards it, to read the text that was lifting into the air, but something held her back. She watched as the words looped around and around, starting well above her head. When the book got to the last page, two others began to flip and once those were done four started. Soon the words of all the books were collected together into the middle of the room in a giant blog of black letters that were constantly moving. The blog started to shape itself, bending and shifting and curving. Everything seemed to stop after a moment.

Before Kagome stood a crow that was well over four times her size. For some reason, fear rose up in her chest.

“What is that?”

“Trouble.”
