Kagome climbed down the ladder, wiping off sweat from her forehead with the back of her hand. Hanging up the drapes had been more challenging than she expected, as they were too big for the small window of her new living room. Their new living room. Giggling, Kagome continued with the next task.

She heaved the little televisor from the corner of the room and made a beeline for the wooden box, which was situated opposite from the small couch. She had found it lying abandoned in a small back road near this flat. Broccoli was imprinted on the front side, but it was the best she could get. She hadn’t had complete furnishings when she moved out from her mother’s house and neither had her boyfriend. Thus they had to improvise.

After she had set the televisor down, she grabbed a nearby plastic bag. She walked towards the small red couch and pulled the first cushion from the bag. Tiny little kittens were depicted on it. Kagome rolled her eyes for she knew what Sesshomaru would say to this, but she hated it when a sofa was this naked. Determinedly she placed the pink cushion on the couch. And the green one. And the blue one with little cute sheep on it.

Kagome stepped back a few steps and surveyed her work. “Yeah, that is more like it,” she told herself, smiling sweetly. She then scanned the room for her next task. Cocking her head, she went through her list. Curtains done; televisor and couch, done; pictures done; food is cooking....

She slapped herself on the forehead. Where were they supposed to eat? The kitchen was too small and in the living room they had no table! And if she didn’t want to be shortened by a head’s length for spilling soup on Sesshomaru’s couch, she better thought of something. Her eyes frantically darted from one spot to the other. Beneath the small desk, there was still the cardboard box of the printer….

Kagome shrugged. It would be only for a short period of time until she found a job and they would be able to afford a table. She headed towards the box and began her task.

When Sesshomaru entered his new home, he was barely able to stand up straight. This twelve hour shift had drained all the energy from him. And he was so hungry! He could use a big steak now. A blur of black and yellow rushed towards him and pulled him into an embrace.

“Welcome home, Sesshomaru,” Kagome whispered.

“Good to be home,” he replied.

His girlfriend grabbed his arm and dragged him to the couch. Unlike this morning, the floor wasn’t covered in transport boxes anymore, which was a great relief. He hated chaos. His eyes narrowed. And he hated a couch buried by cushions. Ridiculous colorful cushions.

“Do you like it?” she asked innocently, chewing on her lips.

Every fiber of his body screamed no. Every fiber of his body felt offended by the conglomeration of mismatched furniture, colors and other makeshifts. And yet, with every fiber of his entire soul he was thankful that he and Kagome had finally a small place to call their own.

He pulled Kagome back into a closer embrace, gazing into her beautiful eyes. His lips brushed softly against hers and he breathed his response to her.

“It is perfect.”
