Sesshomaru hated going to the vet.

Though he was not an animal, whenever he looked around at all those awaiting their sentence he couldn’t help but feel bad for the creatures. If the vet was the price of living longer, was it worth it to the animals? And after filling out several pages of paperwork with Kagome’s information, he was pretty sure that the vet had more paperwork than the hospital did.

He was brought out of his musing by Dolly trying to pounce on a small black dog. Sesshomaru thought that the dog’s type was something that sounded ridiculous… maybe Affenpinscher. Just as ridiculous as the name, the dog wore some kind of white cone that was attached to his collar, probably to keep him from licking or biting at stitches hidden under a white bandage on his leg. Though the dog looked much older than Dolly, Sesshomaru was pretty sure that the Dalmatian could take the little ‘toy’ dog. A gentle but firm pull on her leash had her coming back over to sit next to where Sesshomaru sat.

The waiting room for the vet was loud with the noises of different kinds of animals. A parrot was sitting on the shoulder of an older lady, seemingly having a conversation with her. A hamster in a small plastic ball was held to the chest of a little girl who kept looking at the dogs in the room as if she would trade her pet for them in a heartbeat. There was a loud hiss from a cat carrier when a dog wandered to close to it. All in all, Sesshomaru figured Kagome owed him a lot for this and he was more than happy to collect as soon as she got out of classes.

“Mr. Taisho?”

Sesshomaru looked up to see that some kind of nurse was standing by the door. He wasn’t sure what the vet equivalent to a nurse was, and frankly he didn’t care. Standing up, he walked over to the woman and stood in front of her in silence. The woman gave a nervous smile and looked down to see Dolly was following Sesshomaru like a little duckling. She wanted to sigh over how cute it was, but something told her the man would not like that at all. “This way.”

Sesshomaru followed the nurse through the doorway and looked down at the dog. He held the door open as she walked past then did the same with the door of the room the nurse took them to. Dolly tripped over her feet going through the second door, but she was up after a second and rushing into the room before Sesshomaru could figure out if he should do anything.

Sesshomaru sat down in a chair the nurse pointed him to before leaving. Though he did not have much experience with vets, the room was much like a doctor’s room except for the animal sized metal table in place of the human sized uncomfortable bed. He figured that it would be exactly the same, so this room was just another waiting room.

Ten minutes later the nurse walked back in. She smiled down at Dolly.

“Ready to get your shots?”

Dolly howled.
