Chapter 57 - The End

There was a knock at Inuyasha's door, and the hanyou quickly went to open it. There, leaning against the doorframe, with his arms crossed over his chest and a smirk turning up the corners of his lips, was Sesshoumaru. Kagome looked up at him with a smile.

"There you are. I was wondering where you were."

"Would you care to join this Sesshoumaru for dinner?" The taiyoukai was nervous, even though he knew she would agree. He had no idea how she would react to his attempt at romance. What if she laughed at him? What if she thought the whole thing was silly? He tried so hard, worked to make everything perfect, and if she didn't like it, he didn't think his already decimated pride could ever recover. The woman he was in love with for years had seen him transformed into a dog, stuck in that form, but this could be far worse.

"Oh, I would," she started before glancing at her friend, "but Inuyasha already ordered for us. If I'd known you were here, we would have ordered for you, too."

"No, I didn't, Kaggie," Inuyasha said with a grin. "Go on."

"You didn't? But I heard you call!"

"I faked it, okay? Now go. You gave me a headache with all this Psychology talk."

Finally understanding that Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru had been in on it together, the miko nodded. "Alright, I will." She rose and accepted the hand Sesshoumaru held out to her, allowing him to lead her down the stairs, through the living room, and down into the basement. They stopped outside the door to their apartment, and she looked up at the taiyoukai in question.

Sesshoumaru caressed her cheek gently, brushing her hair behind her ear. "I love you," he said softly.

"I love you, too. What did you do?"

"Open the door and find out."

Kagome placed her hand on the knob, suddenly nervous, and she slowly turned it to swing open the door. She was greeted with the glow of candlelight and gasped at the beauty of it. She walked inside and spotted their coffee table, set up with candlesticks and dinner.

"What's all this?" she asked, overwhelmed.

"I can't believe he helped you."

Sesshoumaru smirked. "He was initially reluctant, but once I promised to put in a good word for him, he relented. He is very eager to be forgiven for his transgressions. I, personally, do not believe he deserves your forgiveness."

"You have no idea," Kagome agreed. She was completely unaware that Sesshoumaru had overheard her telling Jak every bit of what Inuyasha said, and the taiyoukai wasn't going to tell her. "So, what are we drinking?" she asked while picking up her glass.

"Sparkling cider," Sesshoumaru replied nervously, still unsure of his choice of beverage.

"Oh, I love sparkling cider," the miko exclaimed happily. Sesshoumaru released a huge whoosh of air, relieved that she approved. "You've gotta relax, Sesshoumaru. I'm not going to flip out on you if one little thing isn't perfect. I still can't believe you did all of this for me. It's amazing."

"You deserve it," he purred at her.

"I picked the perfect man," she said with a soft sigh.

Sesshoumaru couldn't help but smirk while inside; his beast was doing the same. 'I knew I picked the perfect girl ages ago,' the beast thought.

'And you were right,' Sesshoumaru agreed.

"I am far from perfect," the taiyoukai confessed. "Far from deserving of such a perfect woman."

"If we keep this up, I'm going to end up crying," Kagome admitted. The level of romance was beginning to get to her. "Let's eat."

The pair ate in comfortable silence for several minutes until Sesshoumaru was startled when the miko shoved the table away and quickly moved to straddle his legs. She watched curiously as the taiyoukai grabbed a tissue and slipped off the used condom before tossing it in the trash.
