         Chapter 1: Preface- Contradictions

She had always been taught that demons were the one mistake the gods had made. Their existence the very reason humans were created afterward, to balance out this world they couldn’t get back under their control while demons still roamed the earth. She was taught that demons were flawed, ugly, and the gods had to make up for it with the creation of man.

She had been taught that demons couldn’t be trusted, that they were underhanded and sneaky. They stunk, they were greedy, they killed mercilessly, and they couldn’t stand humans.

Now, Kagome was sure that someone had gotten something wrong along the way, because in her short nineteen summers, what she saw was that humans were all these things. Except instead of hating humans, they hated demons with a passion that was often unjustified.

She had just never understood why humans and demons hated each other so much. Why did demons kill humans? Why did humans kill demons? Who started it all? Who would end it? She knew humans hated demons because they killed humans, they were frightening to behold, and they had powers beyond anything any human could imagine. Even mikos and monks did not have such power.

But once again, Kagome got confused whenever she was taught this. Humans killed each other, didn’t they? Humans could be ugly, and while they didn’t have powers, their hatred of demons seemed to grow more from jealousy and contradictions more than anything else.

She also understood why demons hated humans. They fought with each other constantly, they were weaker. They took demon land and didn’t show respect to them, or their traditions.

But once again, full of contradictions. Demons fought each other all the time over land, money, mating rights, and other pointless things. Some were strong, while others were shunned because they were not. They took each other’s land all the time, and they didn’t respect humans or their customs either.

So the tradition of hating and living in fear of each other went on.

It’s funny, she thought, the less there is to justify a traditional custom, the harder it is to get rid of it.

And this is the world she lived in, the world that was turned upside down by the one demon that showed her another way.

Hey everyone! Thanks for taking the time to read my fic! This is a story I’ve wanted to tell for a long time, so I hope you enjoy it. This fic goes back to when Sesshomaru first lost his arm. We’re going to pretend Kagome wasn’t there when this happened, and instead of Rin finding him in the woods, it’s Kagome. The next chapter will be up really soon, so please look forward to it!

Happy Reading,

Beautiful Morning Sun
