Sakura tree by blackrose

Kagome's story

"A sacrifice must be made," whispered Kagome. As she looked down at Sesshomaru, her love, her mate. She watched with tears in her eyes as he gazed up at the tree that meant so much to them both. She wanted nothing more than to take him in her arms and hold him. Tell him that she loved him. But she could not. She was no longer on his plane of existence.

Long ago, she had told him that a sacrifice must be made.

"In order for there to be peace in the world a sacrifice must be made," she had told him. He did not understand then, but as she drifted away he finally did.

The look on his face when she left made her burst into tears. She had never seen him so lost. Long after her departure he refused to eat, he refused to leave their bedroom. Yes, she had been there. She had watched as he slowly wasted away. If it had not been for a young girl by the name of Rin, she was sure he would have withered away like the leaves in winter.

Yes, she watched him, and she cried with him. She cried for the love that they lost. The years of joy and happiness that had now been turned into years of bleak despair. But she could do nothing but watch as he suffered, and in turn she suffered greatly.

Finally, after many years he finally got better. But she could still see the empty look in his eyes.

"Like he looked when I first met him," she thought all the while crying silently. She remembered that day, the day when she met him. She had thought him a monster, thought he was evil. In truth, she did not know how they fell in love. It had happened so suddenly without warning. It had taken her breath away.

She once again looked at the sakura tree once full of life now a bleak reminder of what was, what used to be. It was the bearer of many good memories, but bad ones too.

"He was always so serious, and cold around everyone," It was amazing that she got around that impenetrable wall that he had around his heart.

"He had suffered so much as a child," she thought with a sigh.

"His mother leaving him at such a young age," a single tear slid down her cheek.

"His father dying," another tear followed the first then another, and another followed until she was sobbing at the injustice of it all.

No one should suffer so much in one lifetime. No one should be so lonely. She thought back to that day. The day when she was forced to leave all that she knew and loved.

"Sesshomaru," she managed to whisper as she slowly faded like the morning mist. "I love you, we will meet again," and with that she faded from one plane to the next. But before she left she saw his face, and she wanted to cry. His beautiful face was twisted into a mask of pain, of utter anguish.

That was the memory that haunted her. She later learned that she was able to leave her current plane of existence to watch over the ones she loved. But that was all she could do, watch. She could not hold her love, and tell him that she was with him. No, she could only watch, watch and cry. As she did now.

She watched as he turned away from the tree. As he turned away from her. And she ached. She ached to feel his strong, safe arms around her once again. To feel his warm sweet breath on her cheek once again With a sigh she watched as he smelled her scent of sakura blossoms. One of the only ways she could let him know of her presence. She knew he smelled it.

She heard him whisper,

"Someday my love I will find you again, and the sakura tree will bloom once more,"

She smiled before whispering with tears on her eyes.

"Soon my love, soon we will be together again," she was fading, quickly she uttered the truest words she had ever said.

"I love you,"
