Kagome smiled and looked around her.  Everyone was watching her every move with eager eyes and she was thrilled that for the first time, Kouga and Inu Yasha seemed to be getting along, at least for the moment.

“Ok, as I explained earlier, we are going to reenact nursery rhymes for the kids.  I’ve brought along all of the supplies that we will need and I think that I managed to get all of us involved.  I’ll be the narrator.”  Kagome announced and gave a short bow when Rin and Shippo clapped.

She handed out the props that she had brought along and then clapped her hands.  “Ok, let’s get the show on the road.  I’ll start narrating and when it comes to your part, I’ll look at you and you can show off a bit.”  She explained.  When everyone nodded, she cleared her throat and began.

“Hey diddle, diddle, the cat and the fiddle.”

Kagome looked over at Kouga, who turned a puzzled gaze towards her.  “Kagome,”  He said, looking confused, “I’m not a cat.”

“I know that you are not a cat, Kouga, but this is how the rhyme goes.  Please just work with it, ok?”  Kagome pleaded.

Inu Yasha snorted and shook his head.  “Face it, Kagome. The mangy wolf can’t do it.”  He jeered and turned to watch as Kouga turned bright red in the face.

“Oh, yeah?”  Kouga challenged.  “I’ll be the best damn cat you’ve ever seen, mutt-face.”

Kouga turned towards the children and allowed his claws to dance along the strings of the fiddle.  Both Rin and Shippo cheered him on and when he was done playing for a bit, he turned a smug grin upon the hanyou and said, “Top that, bitch.”

Before Inu Yasha could think of a reply, Kagome loudly said, “Moving on.”

“The cow jumped over the moon.”

With this, Kagome glanced over at Inu Yasha and waited for him to start on his part.  The hanyou’s ears flattened against his head.  He really didn’t want any part of it, but because his bastard brother and the mangy wolf agreed to do it, he had to go along with it for pride’s sake.

“What’s the matter, Inu-trasha?”  Kouga said, his tail waving wildly behind him.  “Not hanyou enough to do it?”

Flipping the wolf his middle finger, Inu Yasha sighed and then proceeded to leap high into the air and land with a graceful flourish.  When he straightened up, he crossed his arms over his chest and sighed before saying, “Moo.”

Shippo and Rin laughed loudly as the hanyou finally sat down and then turned to look at her expectantly.

“The little dog laughed to see such sport.”

Her dark eyes turned to look over at the youkai lord, who graced her with a raised eyebrow before saying, “This Sesshomaru does not laugh.”

“Sesshomaru-sama, it’s for the rhyme.”  Kagome pleaded and then motioned towards the children.  “Please, it’s part of how it goes.”

Jaken stepped forward and snapped, “Foolish human, Sesshomaru-sama doesn’t need to do anything for the amusement of those brats.  In fact, if he smiled, it would only be because he was about to slaughter each and every one of you.”

Before Jaken could continue on his rant, a rare smile crossed Sesshomaru’s lips as his boot connected with Jaken’s backside and sent him clear across the field.

Kagome lifted her own eyebrow and nodded.  “Yes, that will do very nicely, Sesshomaru-sama.”  She turned towards the children and with a smile, she finished the rhyme.

“And, the dish ran away with the spoon.”

Miroku stood up and walked over to Sango.  Dropping down to one knee, Miroku took Sango’s hand in his and said, “Sango, would you do me the honor of running away with me?”

Sango’s left eye twitched and she glanced over at Kagome with a look that promised swift retribution for having to put up with the lecher.  “Yes, I will run away with you.”

The look on Miroku’s face made Kagome smile as he gently helped Sango to her feet.  He looked so happy and excited that Kagome prayed that he didn’t mess it up by…

“HENTAI!”

Yep, he just had to go and ruin it, didn’t he.  Sighing, Kagome turned to the children and said, “Well, that concludes this rhyme.  Did you enjoy it?”

Rin and Shippo nodded and glanced over at the group of adults who were all facing off against each other.   Kagome watched as Sango stood over Miroku, her fist threatening to deliver another punch , if necessary.  Jaken had prostrated himself on the ground before his lord, who looked bored.  Inu Yasha and Kouga were hurling insults and were getting ready to fight.

“Well,” Kagome said as she quickly led the children from the field, “I think that the next rhyme that we experience will have to be something less interactive.”

When the children nodded in agreement, Kagome mentally told herself that it would be a cold day in hell before she ever allowed those freaks to reenact another rhyme.
