The Twelfth Day Of Christmas. by VampireGoddess12Xx

Chapter 1

Inuyasha walked into the clearing slowly.  He could not describe his mood, or the way he felt.  He felt… a lot and most of it was not good nor pleasant.  He did not want to feel what he was feeling.  Unfortunately, he had no choice; not anymore anyway.

The first thing he noticed was Kagome.  She sat on the lip of the well, her back to him.  The second thing his noticed, which made him growl hatefully, was his half brother.  Sesshomaru stood not far from Kagome, he was leaning against a tree.  Kagome didn’t seem afraid of his brother, despite the numerous attempts he had made on her life.

And Inuyasha could smell Sesshomaru’s scent all over her.  They hadn’t just been in the same proximity of each other, they had been close.

His eyes flickered from Sesshomaru to her and back again.  He was unsure what to make of the whole situation, unsure what to say to them, unsure what to think.  No, he knew what to think.  Sesshomaru had been Kagome’s secret admirer.  Sesshomaru had been sending her gifts.  Sesshomaru was trying to take her from him.  He growled.

“Inuyasha” Kagome spoke quietly, softly

Before Inuayasha could speak she continued “For so long, years, I have loved you Inuyasha.  I have followed you around, faithfully-backed you up, loyally-treated your wounds; physically and emotionally, with care.  For so long I clinged to the hope that one day you would love me.  And time after time again you broke my heart chasing the dead”

A light smell of salt filled the air “I see now that you will never be able to love me.  But I have found someone who does love me- someone who believes in me-has faith in me- who won’t hurt me.  Someone that I too love” Kagome wiped a tear from her eye “I can and will no longer spend my time chasing after you Inuyasha”

Inuyasha could not believe it.  He knew every word she spoke was the truth, and it broke his heart.  Is this how she felt? All the time? How could I have hurt her so much… He wanted to be angry but he couldn’t, all he could feel was hurt and sad.

He stared at the ground, tears filling his eyes.  He shut his eyes tight as if it would keep the damned salt-water droplets at bay.  He didn’t want to hear anymore.  It hurt.

The sound of soft footsteps made it to his white dog ears causing him to look up.  Kagome stood in front of him unshed tears in her eyes.  She placed a hand on his cheek, causing a growl to emanate from the throat of her beloved.  That she ignored.

“Inuyasha, we will always be friends and I will never betray you” She promised with a small sad smile, it hurt for her too.

Inuyasha found his voice for the first time “You… you love him?” He asked motioning towards his brother

Kagome nodded

“And he… loves you” Inuyasha looked at his brother as he asked this

Sesshomaru did not speak, he only stared at Inuyasha with eyes that seemed to say ’is that a serious question?’

Inuyasha sighed with a sort of hopeless aggravation “I guess I really messed up with you then”

“There will always be a place for you in my heart Inuyasha” Kagome told him

“I know…” Inuyasha nodded “He better make you really happy Kagome… or I’ll kick his ass” But Inuyasha knew Sesshomaru would never hurt Kagome if he truly did love her.

Kagome laughed at that and hugged her friend tightly.  Although a bit hesitant, Inuyasha wrapped his arms around the small frame of the girl and hugged her back.  “I’m sorry for hurting you” Kagome whispered

“I’m sorry too” Inuyasha replied

They pulled apart when a low growl resonated throughout the area.  It was apparent that the contact was beginning to anger the Western Lord.  He would only tolerate so much.

Kagome giggled and skipped towards her love.  She grabbed his hand began to pull him in the direction of the village.  Inuyasha had already started off without them.

“Boy, I can’t wait to tell everyone else…” Kagome said

Sesshomaru could only stare at her.
