*Let's all give Rowdy's girl a huge round of applause.  She is doing her best to keep me straight and has been kind enough to check my grammar on this challenge.  It's  a chore and i thought that I've give praise for her doing it.

Kouga sat in his den and addressed his wolves.  “Today, I will go and claim the woman who is to be my mate for all eternity.”  He bragged as he puffed out his chest,  “I will bring her here to serve not only my needs, but the needs of this den by finding the rest of the shikon shards.”

The male wolves whistled and applauded their leader as the blue-eyed wolf sat back and smirked proudly.  However, his two companions knew better.

Kouga was all talk when it came to the lovely shikon miko named Kagome.  Sure, whenever they did happen across the miko and her group, Kouga would posture for a bit, deliver some insulting lines to the inu hanyou, and then leave in a cloud of dust, especially if he detected that trouble was coming.

While they were content to remain loyal to their leader, they wondered when the rest of their brethren would finally see Kouga as the wolf he really was:  Lazy and loud.

Hell, both he and his brother often wondered if Kouga had been with the group who met their end at Kagura’s fan, would those wolves still have died?  But neither he nor his brother could be sure that Kouga would not have run away at the first sign of trouble.

Hakkaku was pretty sure that Kouga would have stayed and fought; however, Ginta could not be so sure.  When that new freak that Naraku created, Juromaru, made his appearance, Kouga had left the inu hanyou’s pack alone and ran off only to meet up with his pack.  It was only after he had reminded his leader that Kagome had been there at the fight, that the wolf leader froze and then proceeded to beat the living hell out of both him and Hakkaku before speeding off to go save the damsel in distress.

Of course, he made sure to take full credit for saving Kagome, but had they not reminded him, he would have pranced off into the sunset without a care in the world.

The sun was setting and it was clear that Kouga had no intention of following through with his claim of going to secure the little miko as he promised.  It was clear that he was comfortable and didn’t appear to want to move.  Instead, the leader of the eastern pack seemed more content on filling his belly and sleeping than getting up and leaving the den.

Of course, Kouga wasn’t very big on keeping promises, so this was no big surprise.  After all, he refused to follow through with his promise to mate Ayame and only allowed her to come around so that he could rut with her without claiming her.  Indeed, the female wolf was quickly catching onto what he was doing, but she loved him and was determined to keep his attention the only way she could.

The miko, however, was above that sort of thing.  Sure, it was clear that she was not interested in their leader and always tried to spare his feelings, but Kouga’s ego simply would not allow him to accept it.  It was as if he were going to attempt to force his attentions upon the little miko.

However, if their leader thought that his actions were going to go unchecked, Kouga had another think coming.  The last time they encountered the miko and her group, Lord Sesshomaru’s group joined the group and it was the youkai lord who had quietly pulled them aside after Kouga quickly got the hell out of the area, and told them to inform their leader that the miko was no longer up for claiming.

Both he and Hakkaku knew what that meant.  The youkai lord had also issued his own claim over the miko and his claim reduced Kouga’s to nothing.  It was the youkai lord’s scent that rested upon the miko’s skin and it was the youkai lord who would be the best protector for the young female.

Unlike their leader.

Glancing over at the dark-haired wolf, who was blissfully slumbering on his pile of furs, it was clear as to why he simply would never gain what he desired.

Kouga was too lazy, too loud, and too full of hot air to ever be able to claim the young miko.  He was everything that the youkai lord was not and, because of that, the youkai lord had already won the lady’s heart.

It seemed that Kouga would have to learn the hard way.
