Kagome sighed as she walked down the stairs of her families shrine house. She had her hair pulled back to a low ponytail, it was wet and she didn’t want it making her face wet. She had little make up on, practically none, the only makeup she wore was coverup for her blemishes. Contrary to what her friends believed, that her skin was perfect, she had some blemishes, she was just lucky enough to find the exact match to her skin tone.

She wore the standard school uniform, and it once again annoyed her that the idiots in-charge of the uniform decided to make the skirt so short. It really is a hassle when bending over gives someone a free peepshow. ‘They must have been old perverts that want free peepshows all the time. I bet they have the school rigged with cameras to catch us at the right angle when we bend over, just so they can jack off to it.’ Kagome thought angrily, a small murderous frown taking over her beautiful face.

She walked down the road and stopped at a stop sign just a few blocks away from the school she and her three most closest friends went to, Eri, Ayumi, and Yuri. They had been friends since childhood and knew each others secrets very well. She saw them all coming from their respective areas, to meet her at the stop sign. Squatting down, she rubbed her freezing bare legs, trying to warm them up some. It was just starting to freeze at night, so there wasn’t sow yet. But it was still cold!

“Hey guys.” Kagome greeted, her teeth chattering as she rubbed her arms.

“Hey Kagome.” They responded, their teeth chattering as well, except for Yuri. She seemed warm and happy. This caught the other girls attention.

Kagome noticed that her legs were darker. Squatting down, Kagome reached forwards and touched the odd covering. “Sweats? Yuri, why are you wearing these?” Kagome asked, her voice muffled and she breathed into her hands as she rose from her position.

Yuri giggled and motioned her friends to follow her. “You guys know that I was in America visiting family over there for break, right?” The three friends nodded together and motioned Yuri to continue. “Well, they’re break didn’t happen until a few weeks later, so I accompanied my cousin to her school. While there I saw that there was a group of girls that wore skirts like our uniforms, but in the hals and outside they wore sweats to keep their legs warm.” The three friends all oh’d at the information they wre getting, making Yuri grin. “This group was called cheerleaders. It made me realize I could wear sweats outside of school, so that I wont freeze on the way there.”

Kagome was grinning. “That is so awesome! I hope I have a pair to wear tomorrow! Yuri, you’ve probably just made a new trend for all of us girls!” Kagome lunged at Yuri and huged her, Ayumi and Eri following close behind her in their enthusiasm. After Yuri begged to be released, they all moved into the school, where Yuri took off her pants and stuffed them in her locker along with her outdoor shoes.

“We’ll see each other at A Lunch, right?” Eri asked, always the shy and insecure one.

“I have A, what about you two?” Yuri asked, her eyes going from Ayumi to Kagome. Ayumi nodded in agreement then the other three friends all looked to Kagome. At her continued silence the three assumed that she had B.

“Oh no! Kagome, who will you eat with!?” exclaimed Ayumi, near tears in dramatics.

Kagome grinned and laughed. “Relax guys! I have A lunch too. No worries!” Kagome smiled and stuck her tongue out impishly as her friends all glared and made a move to punch her arms. But, as Kagome’s saving grace, the bell rang signaling they had to get to their respective classes, or else risk getting marked tardy.

“You’re lucky Kagome! We’ll get you for that at lunch!” one of them called, though Kagome wasn’t sure which one it was. She laughed to herself as she ducked into her homeroom, Ms. Shinto standing by a window with her back to the door made Kagome sigh in resignation. She and this teacher had never gotten along well, sure she seemed to put up with her, but she acted as though her students didn’t know anything. ‘She talks like that damned show…Dorba something! Jeez, asking what 100 times 1000 equals, as if we wouldn’t know! And she asks redundant questions too!’ Kagome ranted to herself, so far in her thoughts that she didn’t notice the group of girls running into her classroom.

“Higurashi!” the group of girls yelled upon seeing her, and Kagome looked up like a deer caught in headlights. The girls swarmed around Kagome, their eyes wide and wild while a single girl tried to gain control of the lot.

Kagome was dizzy from their questions. All she had gotten so far was that they wanted something. They all looked vaguely familiar to her….”OH!” Kagome exclaimed, her eyes widening in realization. “Your that fan group of Kikyo, aren’t you? What do you want with me?”

The group had stilled and were casting angry malicious looks at her now. “You dare utter hime’s name aloud?” was said, while others talked about her disrespect of their hime.

Kagome sweet dropped, looking around frantically for an escape. The girl from before whom was trying to gain control of the situation finally snapped and yelled at the other girls while clapping her hands to get their attention. Ms. Shinto turned and glared heatedly at the girls making them all freeze and mumbled their apologies, all except Kagome, who saw no need to apologize for them being loud! The lead girl, ‘the president of kikyo’s fan club’, Kagome remembered, cleared her throat and all the other girls looked to her in admiration and silent aw.

“Kagome, on behalf of her Hime’s most loyal fans, we beg to be allowed some information on her whereabouts. She has not been to school, or home, for a year. Please, can you tell us where she might be?”

Kagome shook her head. “I’m sorry Himiko. I’m not all that sure where she is either. All I know is that she’s in America as an exchange student. At least, that’s what I’ve been told…” The last part was mumbled so the fan girls didn’t hear it over the collective wail they shared.

Himiko nodded primly and turned on her heal to walk out, the other girls filing out before her. She stopped at the door and looked back at Kagome. “If you hear anything new, you will inform me, yes, Kagome?”

Kagome nodded and saluted Himiko, making the other girl laugh her way out of the room. A throat being cleared made Kagome look away from the door, only to find that the teacher and the rest of the class was waiting for her to take her seat. Blushing, Kagome lowered her head and sank into her seat while silently cursing every deity she knew of.

######################

Kagome sighed as she finally opened the door to leave the school. It was a long first day back from break. After being embarrassed in-front of the whole class, she had later been chosen to be the guinea pig for a science experiment, which had gone bad (of course) and blown up in her face. Then her bagged lunch had been ruined because of the cold outside (how she wasn’t sure) and she was forced to buy one. Then a boy asked her out but she had been forced to say no because she was interested in someone else (but she really wasn’t, she just couldn’t stand him). Wasn’t her day just grand?!

Kagome waved good bye to her friends as she turned down her street to go back home and have a nice plate of cookies, warm milk, and a hot bath. “Mom does make the best cookies!” Kagome said aloud happily, picking up her pace so she could get home quicker.

Kagome got to the bottom of the steps leading up to her shrine house, and noticed something odd. Parked behind her mothers mini-van was a black shiny federal looking car. It was strange because there was no one else on her block, the shrine was large enough to need a block big enough for three houses. Kagome also realized, upon further inspection, that this was the same car that had taken Kikyo to the air port. Excitement filled her, ‘Maybe Kikyo’s back!’, and Kagome ran up the steps to her home. But, with each step she took she couldn’t help but feel as though something bad was about to happen, something she couldn’t prevent.

Reaching the front door and panting for breath, Kagome reached for the doorknob, but hesitated for the barest of moments before shacking her head at her own sillyness and opening the door.

She slipped off her shoes, dropped her bag on the floor, and walked into the living room, only to walk in on a fight.

“No! You are not taking my other daughter! You already took Kikyo! Why do you want Kagome too!?” Kagome stood shocked still, watching her mother rant and rave as she paced the floor in their living room, two men in black suits and with black sunglasses sat calmly on the couch as she threatened to dismember them for even thinking about trying to take her little girl away from her.

“M’am, please calm down. We need Kagome to fill Kikyo’s spot. While in practice she messed up a training exercise and got herself injured so she is no longer able to complete the task she was going to. We need Kagome so her partner isn’t alone.” The man on the left, a slightly fatter one with black hair held back in a short braid, said calmly.

“Yes, we must have your other daughter as well. Kikyo will be returning home soon, as long as she heals correctly. If she does not, we will hold onto her until she is fully healed so you wont have to pay any health bills. Please, M’am. Its for your countries best interest.” The other man, a taller slimmer man with red hair cut in military fashion, said, leaning forwards with his arms outstretched in a pleading fashion.

“Why should I allow you to take my little girl out of my house? You never even told me why you needed Kikyo! And until I know why you are taking my children I will not allow them to leave!” Mrs. Higurashi shouted her, voice rising to such a level that Kagome’s eyes widened.

‘I’ve never heard mother’s voice get so loud, not even when Kikyo and I ruined the whole living room during one of our fights… Wow, they must have gotten her royally pissed off!’ Kagome thought to her self while cautiously walking farther into the room, and attracting the attention of the three beings in the room.

“Kagome! What are you doing home so soon dear?” Mrs. Higurashi asked, moving towards her daught with a strained loving smile.

Kagome frowned and looked at her green watch. “Uh, mom, its 3:30…school let out a half hour ago. Technically I’m on time…. And who are these guys?”

Mrs. Higurashi’s smile faltered for a moment as she realized her daughter was correct about the time. She hadn’t noticed that 4 hours had passed while she had been arguing with the two men in the room. When she realized her daughter was asking about them, she turned and frowned at the men. “They are the ones that took your sister last year.”

Kagome nodded, having expected that. “Where is she then? Shouldn’t she be here with them?” Kagome looked around the room, by-passing the men.

Mrs. Higurashi’s frown deepened. “They tell me she was injured and is now unable to do what she left to do. They want you now. I wont let you leave until they tell me what she was supposed to do, and where she is now.”

Kagome didn’t move a muscle, her mind racing. ‘Kikyo is injured? Is that why I have been feeling moody, because I knew she was hurt? And what was she supposed to do? Why is it so secret?’ Kagome finally graced the men on the couch with her attention, and she walked around her mother while staring at them. “You want me?”

They nodded together. “Why? Why does is have to be me? Why not another girl just like her? Kikyo and I are nothing alike.”

“You two are twins.” Kagome moved her gaze to the red head.

“What does that have to do with anything?” Kagome demanded, her eyes blazing. She hated how everyone assumed she was just like Kikyo. She was born 2 minutes earlier than Kagome, technically, in Kagome’s mind, they weren’t twins. Kikyo was born on the 11th of February one minute before midnight. She was born on the 12th of February, one minute after midnight. They celebrated their birthdays on separate days. Sure, they looked alike, but their eyes were different, their hair was different, and their bodies were different too!

The two men looked at each other. They stood up and walked over to Kagome and her mother. Kagome’s mother stepped back while Kagome stood her ground to the stronger men. The brunette smirked slightly before motioning Kagome to lead the way. Narrowing her eyes, Kagome turned and walked out of the house. “Walk with us to our car. We can explain it to her. The less people that know, the better.” The brunette said to Mrs. Higuarshi. She glared and opened her mouth to disagree before the brunette continued. “If your daughter agrees you should know, then she can tell you. We were ordered not to tell anyone else but her.”

After a moments pause she nodded briskly and motioned Kagome to follow the two men. Kagome nodded and silently promised to tell her everything. Following the two men to their car, she ignored them as they held the door open for her. The inside was black leather, very expensive. Huffing, Kagome sat back in the back seat and watched silently as the two men climbed in after her, and sat across from her. Closing and locking the door, the red head pushed a blue button, making a beeping sound. Kagome glowered at the two impatiently.

“Okay, the sound barrier is up. We can talk freely now.” The red head said, nodding to his partner.

The brunette nodded and took off his glasses, revealing startling blue eyes. “Hello, my name is Hojo, and this is Max.” He motioned to the green eyed red head who nodded to his name.

“You two know my name. I don’t care what your names are. I want to know why you want me and what my being Kikyo’s twin sister has to do with this.” Kagome said, crossing her arms over her chest and glaring.

Max laughed. “You’re definitely not Kikyo. She was really polite with us. I like you, you’re blunter.”

Hojo laughed and nodded, but seeing how Kagome was letting up on her glare, he decided tog et down to business. “The reason it matters is because of the job she was to do.”

“And what was this job?” Kagome interrupted, frowning as Max wagged his finger at her.

“Let us tell this story, ‘kay?” he teased, ignoring her human growl.

“As I was saying, she had a job to do. The reason we chose her was because of her DNA. You two have a very unique DNA, one that only a few people have. I don’t know the spacifics, but your actually DNA isn’t what is recorded on your birth certificate. The moment you were both born and your blood was taken, the doctors notified out agency.

“We are a branch from NASA, and the space company here and all around the world. Two people from each space station from around the world are employed in out agency, and we focus on the supernatural, like other planets that have life.

“Recently, around 20 years ago, we found a planet in another galaxy that has the potential to sustain life, it even thrives there. On this planet are rocks, a type of rock that used to be on our planet. However, our ancestors used this rock for making many things that were very advanced, in the city named Atlantis. These rocks are very sought after by billionaires and countries to further our intelligence. Not many people know about these rocks, called shikon jewels. In their rugged form they are black, but when polished they turn into pink jewels, hence their name.”

Kagome coughed and caught their attention. “What does this have to do with me and Kikyo?” She had lowered her glare and now looked very interested.

This time it was Max that spoke. “We’re getting there. I don’t think my partner fully focused on what our ancestors did with these rocks. These rocks emitted some sort of…aura, we’ll say, and they caused an evolution in them. The evolution caused our brains to realize some things, Galileo, Thomas, Maria Curie, all the scientist that have their names in your school books owned or had found one of these rocks. The billionaires around the world, their grand-daddies had found one of these and used the knowledge it had given them to further their money.

“We want these rocks to further human life, Kagome. But, there was a problem on the planet, when we first arrived. There are these animals that covet the rocks, they look human, but they are far fro it. They speak in growls and snarls, we cant understand them. So, we recorded some encounters with them and some of the doctors in our agency came up with a language to communicate with them. This is what Kikyo had been doing. She had reached the age of 18 before you, as you know, so we had chosen her before you to do this job.”

“But what is this job!? You two keep on giving me this information, but it doesn’t matter if I don’t like the job!” Kagome exclaimed, throwing her hands in the air and plopping back into her seat in exasperation.

Hojo nodded to Max, who continued with his part. “I’m getting there. Now, Kikyo went to our ‘boot camp’ where she has watched videos and what not with the other recruits. She had a mishap in the camp and was wounded. She was going to be a helper with Kaede, who is in charge of the communication part of this project our whole agency is focused on. We need you to take her place. Only you can do it, actually.”

“Is it because of my DNA, then? Is that why?” Kagome asked, giving up on understanding any of this.

“Yes, that’s why. If you agree to help us, we will help you continue your school on the way to the planet. And yes, you’d need to leave school and go to the planet. You will meet your partner there, she left earlier. Your other partner will meet you at the airplane which will take you to the shuttle, if you agree to help us.”

“Why did Kikyo agree to this?” Kagome asked, her eyes closed to prevent them from knowing her thoughts.

“She accepted because we offered to help your family with their financial problems.” Kagome eyes snapped open and she looked at them intently.

“What financial problems? We don’t have any financial problems!” Kagome exclaimed.

Max shook his head. “No, you do. Your family owes your capital more than half a million dollars. They have to pay it by the end of the year for you to keep your home. If it isn’t you’ll be kicked out. Kikyo made that demand, and she added a million to it, so that they’d never get so far behind in their payment again, plus your mortgage being paid off.”

Kagome closed her eyes tightly, remembering the letters she had seen, that her mother refused to allow her to read. ‘So that’s what those were…’ Kagome thought, her mind sad. Opening her eyes, she looked between the two men. “How long would I have IF I agreed to go?”

Max and Hojo looked at each other, before looking back to Kagome. “One week. That’s as long as we could hold the shuttle. If you agree to it, we could leave tonight, take you to say good bye to whom you must, and then take you to the air port, which would take you straight to the shuttle, and you’d be in space before midnight.”

Kagome swallowed compulsively, her mind racing miles away. “What would I be allowed to take?” She asked, her mind and voice separate from each other.

“Standard things, clothes, tooth brush, paste, bedding, money. Things like that. Think of it as a field trip, without reception. We have a system that allows us to communicate with people here, but it costs some coins, 10¢ I believe.”

Kagome was silent for a few minutes before nodding. “Fine, let me talk to my mom and let her know I’m leaving tonight. How long would this take?” Both men shrugged, “Right. You told me this has been going on for 20 years. Might take forever. Do I have to sign anything? Am I allowed to choose when I leave?”

Max nodded and picked a brief case Kagome hadn’t noticed. “You can read these papers if you like, it just states that you will help us and stuff. You can take it with you as we return to your house, you and your mom can go over it, but not an attorney, the less people that know the better… There are only a few dates that a shuttle leaves the planet with passengers, but they are arriving all the time. That’s another reason for the money, to pay your way back, or buy a ticket. You can make a free pass apart of our agreement, we’d just add it to this copy, you’d sign it, and then we’d make it official at the office at the planet.”

Kagome nodded and took the papers. “Okay, lets go back inside then. I’m sure my mom is worried!” Kagome laughed awkwardly, her eyes dull as she left the car, not waiting for the men to leave first, and not caring that she might have just flashed them a good bit of her ass. Once the two men had exited their car Kagome made her way up the stairs, listening as the two men followed her up.

Reaching the door, Kagome opened it and announced she was back. “Okay Kagome, tell me what these two…men said! Right now!” Mrs. Higurashi declared, her eyes blazing. It was obvious to Kagome that in the time she had talked to the two men, which was a good half hour, her mother hadn’t calmed down.

“Here, mom. This should explain it, I think. I agreed to go with them, in order to help pay off our financial debt. You know anything about this? Hm?” Kagome asked snidely, handing her the contract.

Mrs. Higurashi sweet dropped. “Ah, ha. Well, we haven’t had much business, so…lets forget that. Right, now, I think we should focus on why they want you.”

“Its because I share Kikyo’s DNA, as in, I am the most suitable replacement for her part in their job, which is finding things in outer space and helping the economy and out understanding of things here.” Kagome responded, walking towards her stairs and laving the two men in the living room, where they had sat down on the couch once more.

“Oh…” Mrs. Higurashi responded, seeming deflated. “Well, why do I need to read this?”

“It’s a contract, meant for me leaving tonight. It sates what we get, and what is required of me. Kikyo signed one. So… Can you just read it form me, please? I need to pack my things.” With that Kagome left her mother in the living room with the two men and the contract.

AN: I know, I should be taking care of A Vampire Queens’ Love, but I seem to have run into a hindering wall with that story. This one is so vivid in my mind I could let it slip away. Notice, im writing this one as I go, hardly no planning is going to happen. Sure, there are some details that must be present, but overall, it’s a winging thing. Don’t worry, im trying on solving my little writing problem with AVQL. That is, afterall, my first story. I don’t want it to die, hense my trying to get writing in my blood again! Lol! ^_^

Please, Review. If your reading this then its obvious that you have read it, so you must have some sort of opinion, right?

Should I continue, or no?
