Chapter two: Most dangerous man alive

Kagome was a twenty two year old woman with a strong sense of justice, and a quick tongue. Reflecting back, maybe that’s why the chief gave her this mission. Though when she thought about it, maybe quitting her job and finding another one would be better. At least then she wasn’t going to the insane asylum to meet up with the most dangerous man in all of Japan. Maybe even the world.

Sesshomaru Taisho was dangerous because of his words, his intellect and so much more. No one knows why he just decided to kill. They just found him sitting in the room of his best friend Byakuya while said friend was lying on the floor, his blood everywhere and his head detached from his body. And what was Sesshomaru doing? Calmly drinking wine and gave a small nod to the officers before taking off. It took three weeks to finally catch the silver haired man. And fifteen officers perished in the capture. Five went to the mental ward, and three killed themselves there in the ward.

Kagome sighed again as she shifted her bag on her shoulder. She remembered the conversation with the chief as well. And it wasn’t pleasant…

Yesterday…

Kagome slammed her hands on the table. “What are you talking about?!” She yelled at the balding Myoga. “Your saying that we’re going to rely on that… nut job of a man to help us close this case?!”

Myoga patted the sweat off his brow with a handkerchief. “Higurashi, I know how the thought of this is appalling to you, but I assure you that this is the best option that we have right now. If what you say is true, six more men will die. That is unless if we crack down on this case and find this man before it’s too late to do so. And let’s say we don’t find him before he kills the last six men that he has chosen. Then what? We don’t know what. But I’m sure that it’s not going to be that he’s going to just disappear. Once a killer, always a killer. You know that Kagome.”

Kagome clenched her fists as she listened to him speak. “Chief, I’m aware that we are dealing with a madman killer here. And I know he’s at large. But depending on another killer to catch one isn’t going to be that easy! You know that yourself! And what are we going to offer Taisho for information? Because I’m positive that there’s no way in hell we’ll let him go.”

“No, we will offer him a transfer to a different asylum.” Myoga said with a nod. “Here are the papers for what we’re offering him.”

Kagome snatched the papers from the old man and flipped though them. Slowly her chocolate brown eyes widened as she continued to go though them. It almost sounded like paradise. She looked up at him. “There’s no way the higher ups are going to allow this.” Kagome said her voice barely above a whisper.

Myoga actually chuckled at her words. “Actually Kagome, they are the ones who suggested this to us.”

“There isn’t anyone who is going to do this for you Chief.”

The old man smirked at her as he crossed his fingers. “Actually Kagome, there is.”

Today…

Kagome cursed out loud after that. She didn’t know how the hell the old bat convinced her to do the mission, but here she was, wearing glasses, her hair in a high pony tail, and wearing an office outfit complete with a jacket, skirt, and high heels. Before her was the large asylum as if it was glaring down at her. It was the best in Japan and said it was able to hold anyone. Or at least the manager Kageroumaru bragged about being so.

The woman took a deep breath, got her story straight once more, and walked inside. Of course as soon as she looked at the man who was named Kageroumaru, she instantly wanted to just walk outside and far, far away from him.

“Good afternoon Miss Higurashi.” He said, his voice sending chills down her spine. His pitch black eyes looked up and down her form, practically violating her with his gaze. “I heard so much about you from the Chief Myoga. It’s such a pleasure to meet you.” He put out his hand to shake.

Kagome took a couple small breaths, remembering why Myoga put her on this mission. It was because she was smart, and quick with her tongue as well as her actions. Instead of taking his hand, she gave him a respectable bow. “It’s nice to meet you as well. I was unaware that you spoke with the chief.” If they talked, then why the hell was she in this office getup? She felt more comfortable wearing jeans and a shirt instead of these stuffy clothes!

“Ah yes, he gave high recommendation to you and asked if I can bring you down to see Taisho. Though it might be a bit dangerous for such a… stunning young woman as you to meet such a dangerous man like Taisho.”

Kagome tried her hardest not to visibly shiver in disgust. At his words. Oh how she tried. “There will be no need sir. If I recall correctly, Taisho and you do not get along very well. And I cannot ask him questions if your right there watching as well.”

His eyes narrowed. “I assure you detective; I have been trying to crack the mind of that man for several years now. If I could not do it, then I’m most positive that you cannot either. I honestly believe that it is silly to send such a fragile thing such as yourself into the tiger’s pit. But if they are willing to pay for your stay at a different asylum, then that is their own right. Juuroumaru! Please show the dear detective to Taisho’s holding cell. Make sure you leave her alone while you do.”

Kagome looked over at the new man who walked in, though she wouldn’t have been able to tell the difference. She could probably guess that Juuroumaru and Kageroumaru were twins with how alike they were. Except that this new man seemed uninterested in her body. Thank the kami’s for that.

In a matter of minutes though, Kagome found herself lost. They walked though halls, down stairs, took many lefts and rights. And even more though doors. She could only guess that having the most dangerous man in Japan locked up; you would have top notch security. Finally they reached one last door where Juuroumaru punched in a series of codes, swiped three different cards then another set of codes before the door finally opened.

“Five cell’s down detective.” He said his voice low and quiet. This surprised Kagome. She expected him to be as annoying as his brother. “There is a camera watching you at all times and a chair in front of his cell for you to sit. When your ready to leave, there is a button next to the door and I shall let you out. And a word of the wise: be carful with your words.”

Kagome swallowed before nodding. “Thank you.” She said with a bow before going down the hall.

She counted in her head the cells as she walked by them. All four had a man in each one of them. The first one the man was rocking back and forth, whispering about disembodying someone. The second one wasn’t much better. The third a man was screaming as he banged on the bars, demanding blood to bathe in. The fourth got to her the most though. The man pulled at the bars, telling Kagome how he would love to play with her body. How he would make sure that she was pumped full of drugs and he would do so much to her. Just listening to him go on and on made her want to just vomit.

Finally she reached the fifth cell.

Honestly, Kagome didn’t know what to expect. Maybe a raging lunatic. Or maybe something else then what she saw.

Sesshomaru Taisho lounged on the bench, a book open in his lap as he read. His cell didn’t hold much. A bed, a small bathroom to the right and a couple of books for him to entertain himself. And he was acting as if this was the most natural thing in the world. When Kagome stood before the bars, the book shut with a snap and the man before her sighed.

“Are you here to bore me with more lectures of how wrong I was again?” He asked, closing his eyes. When he received no answer, the man slowly opened them and looked over. The only thing to show he was shocked was an arched eyebrow.

Kagome on the other hand was speechless. Sesshomaru Taisho was nothing she expected. His long silver hair was tied back and endless sunset eyes watched her. As if he was calculating her. She did find it strange, the twin maroon stripes on his cheeks and the sapphire blue crescent moon on his forehead.

“Good afternoon Taisho.” Kagome said with a slight bow. “I’m detective Higurashi Kagome. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”

A slight smirk reached the man’s face as he sung his legs over to the side of the bench. “And I do believe it is a pleasure to meet you as well detective. A good afternoon as well to you. It has been a while sense I’ve had a visitor who had manors. What do I owe the pleasure of your visit?”

‘Deep breaths Kags. You can do this. The Chief wouldn’t have you do this if you couldn’t.’

“I am currently investigating a murderer Taisho-san. One where my higher ups believe that you can be of assistance. If you assist us with this case, then we will help you.” She said, the most professional way that she could.

He arched a silver eyebrow at her words. “My dear detective, I highly doubt that you can help me in any way shape or form. But I am listening to what you have to offer me.”

Kagome took a deep breath as she took the files out of her bag. “This is the offer that the higher ups are asking of you.”

Sesshomaru stood from his seat on the bench and pushed a tray though a small opening in his prison. “I don’t know believe that brute Juuroumaru informed you of placing the files in there detective. You will then push it back to me and I shall look them over.”

Kagome gave a small nod as she did what she was told and then pushed the tray back. Sesshomaru took the files and began to flip though them.

“The island is a very tropical where you will still be watched around the clock. Once a day you will be allowed outside where you can enjoy some fresh air. Your cell will also have a window so you can enjoy the sunsets as well. Your meals will be much better then this gruel that they feed you here.” Kagome explained, though it said it all there in the file.

The silver haired man placed them in the tray and pushed it back so hard that the papers flew everywhere. “Knowing them, its probably a lie.” He said, going back to his bench. “But, it would be rude of me to ignore a distress cry from the law enforcement. But I also would like to know something from you as well dear detective. How about a game. Quid pro quo.”

“Quid pro quo?” Kagome asked, confused.

He pinched the bridge of his nose. “It means ‘what for what’. I tell you something, in exchange you tell me. When your ready to switch, you just say the words. How about I go first sense your new to this. Explain to me the situation.”

Kagome took a deep breath, trying to calm herself. Something in the back of her mind was telling her that this was a bad idea. A very, very bad idea.

“A man was murdered a week ago. His name was Mushin and he was around forty years old. We suspect that he was slowly starved to death, but was kept alive long enough that he ate his own tongue then actually bled to death. He was found tied to the bed. The body had been dead for a week.” She told him.

Sesshomaru gave a small nod. “I see. Quid pro quo. Tell me detective, why did you join the police force?”

Kagome watched him for a moment, wondering where this was going to lead to. She was warned many times not to give him too much information for her own sanity. Though maybe telling him this much wouldn’t kill her. Or so she hoped.

“I believe that all wrongs must be taken care of. That all those who disobey the law must be put behind bars. I believe that the world should be a better place and if I can make even a little difference in the world before I die, then I can die without regrets.”

A smirk brushed across the man’s lips. “Something happened in your past didn’t it dear detective.”

Kagome clenched her fist slightly. “You’ve already had your turn. Quid pro quo Taisho-san. Who do you think did this?”

The smirk quickly vanished as Sesshomaru sighed and leaned back. “Was there any clues? Writings of some sort in the room?”

“There was one writing on the ceiling. It said: ‘Forever sleep on your sin in death.’” Said the woman.

“I see. So the killer is referring to a sin. The sin of sloth. Which of course is one of the seven deadly sins. Though there are much more then that, but we of course think of just the seven.” He said with a nod. “Quid pro quo. What happened in your past that caused you to become an officer?”

Kagome glared at him. “Taisho-san, I don’t believe that is part of the conversation here.”

He shook his head. “If my questions are not answered detective, then do not expect yours to be answered as well. And what is the harm in telling me just a few things about yourself?”

‘Many.’ Kagome thought to herself. “Fine. My father was killed when I was a child. It seemed that he had racked up debt and men came in and finally killed them. They never caught the men who did it. Quid pro quo. Do you know why the killer did this?”

The man’s golden gaze caught her own. “This is his way of showing justice in the world. But he wishes to make an example out of the victims. Though knowing him he wont stop at just seven. There are many more sins in the world detective, and this is just the beginning of it all. You must think outside the box if you wish to capture him. The box your currently living in wont find him at all.”

Kagome gave a small nod after hearing him say that to her.

There was a loud buzzing sound over the intercom. ‘Detective, I believe your time with my patient has come to a close.’ Kageroumaru’s voice echoed.

Kagome sighed as she grabbed the files that had been thrown on the floor and began to stuff them in the bag.

“Thank you for this conversation Detective. You have been a delight to me this past hour.” Sesshomaru said to her.

Kagome turned and bowed to him. “I may or may not come back again Taisho-san. It depends if we find another body or not. Thank you for your time.” With that she began to walk off. As she walked by the fourth cell though, a hand reached out and grabbed her sleeve, pulling her against the bars.

“Oh yes.” The man’s voice purred in her ear. “You will be fine. I’m going to poison you and fuck you till you scream my little flower.”

“Let! Me! Go!” Kagome yelled out, elbowing the man in the stomach and getting away from him. She pressed herself against the opposite wall, panting slightly.

“Detective!” Sesshomaru called.

Kagome looked over at the man, her eyes slightly frightened from the encounter.

“Come here for a moment. I swear to you on my father’s grave that I will not harm you. I just have a question to ask.”

Kagome shakily walked over to Sesshomaru, trying to calm herself down. “What?”

“What did he say to you?” Sesshomaru’s smooth voice slowly calmed her frayed nerves.

Kagome swallowed hard. “Just profanities. Nothing you need to concern yourself with Taisho-san.”

Sesshomaru shook his head. “I may have been called completely heartless detective, but I am not without completely a heart. I promise you that he wont say such things again to you.” And somehow, she believed his words.

**

Kagome groaned as she ducked under the police tape and into the scene. Really, was it too much to ask for a day off for once? It was only a day sense she saw Sesshomaru Taisho and now another murder took place. Though this time it was at Tokyo records. To be accurate, inside of a recording studio.

She walked though the halls, dreading it as she did. Finally she found the room where the murder took place at.

“Its about time Higurashi.” Bankotsu chuckled as she walked into the room. “Long day?”

“Can it Bankotsu.” She snapped. “What happened?”

The man shrugged. “See for yourself.”

Kagome’s eyes followed his finger till she laid her eyes on a woman with jet black hair, tied up high. She was propped up in the recording booth; her soulless red eyes wide open as her stomach was cut open, organs and blood staining her green dress. Written in blood on the glass spoke more.

THE GREEN-EYED MONSTER WATCHES AND WAITS

Kagome ran her hand though her messy locks. “Green-eyed monster… It seems like our murder killed this woman and made her represent Envy. Great, he strikes again.”

Bankotsu shook his head. “Its going to be a long night.”
