The light of passing sunset flooded the empty classroom through the windows.A few of the curtains fluttered lightly,as the wind passed through the school for the last time today.Everything was very quiet…

Sesshoumaru couldn’t hide his surprised expression. He found it hard to hide any kind of emotion in front of her at all.In just a few weeks she had managed to make him want to throw his mask into the ground and leave it there. What was it about her that affected him so?Was it the innocent look in her sapphire eyes?Or maybe the sweet way she talked?Or just the fact, that she needed protection. He didn’t know, and right now,he couldn’t care less.

Kagome stood in front of him,her head slightly bowed and her arms stretched out to him.In her hands she’d been holding a small wooden box for what seemed to be hours…No one dared to break the silence,as it was too intoxicating. The last rays of light were bathing her form in orange and red colors. It made her even more beautiful than she already was.She stood there without moving, only slightly shaking from time to time because of the anticipation coursing through her.

His eyes went back to the box.It was beautiful…simple and yet incredible, unique. The wood was pure white and the only other color was scarlet red, twisting and turning into a perfect pattern of sakura blossoms. She had painted it herself,he could tell.He noticed her fingers twitching, but the girl still didn’t say a word.

Then, she gently pushed the box more into him, until the tips of her fingers touched him.Curiosity exploded in him and he slowly took the gift from her.

'‘Open it.’'Kagome looked up with the warmest smiles he had ever seen. The gold in his eyes deepened into a darker color. His heartbeat became faster,as he carefully unlocked the lid and pushed it up with one finger.

The first thing Sesshoumaru saw was a small neatly folded piece of paper. He took it out and unfolded it.Kagome shifted nervously in front of him,but did not run away.

“Thank you…”

The black ink harshly contrasted against the white paper. Her handwriting wasn’t the best, but these two word were perfectly put together…He couldn’t imagine how hard she’d tried to make it just right.

A small photo slipped from the note.He bent to catch it and suddenly held his breath…It was one of Kagome’s favorite photos that someone from the photography class took ages ago.It was them…she was crying, being upset about something, and he was holding her in his arms.It was the first time he had helped her and since then…things changed.Although the photo had sparked too many rumors to be good,he still liked it.

Cautiously looking at her,he put it away on his desk and looked into the gift box again. There had been a number of small things hidden under that little note. The one that caught his attention first was something she’d probably made in pottery class. It was small, breakable, fragile…Tenseiga.Exquisitely painted and polished…His heart began to beat even more wildly.

The second item he noticed was a small pink jewel. It sparkled gently under the rays of sunshine and bathed the walls of the box with its loving color.

Then he picked up a silver chain that had a blue crescent moon attached to it.Without even thinking,Sesshoumaru put it around his neck.A startled gasp was heard from the creature before him and he smiled.

And then…when he took everything out,he saw that on the bottom of the box, there was something else written.

“…for everything.”

Kagome squeezed her eyes shut. The emotion was too much to bear. She was going to burst like a water ballon, any minute now!One…two…thr-

Another gasp escaped her lips as she felt strong muscular arms wrap around her. They pulled her against the man she loved and held her close. She could hear his heart beating like insane,it made her smile again.

‘S-S-Sesshoumaru…?’

‘You’re welcome…Kagome.’
