Sesshomaru's Secrets
A/N: Done for Princess Skye's Theme Challenge

Word Count: 4,877 (I can never do a simple little one-shot. I'm simply not built that way.)

He had a secret. Despite what everyone thought of him, he enjoyed bestowing little gifts to those whom he cared for. Namely, Kagome and Rin.
He adopted Rin shortly after he left college and took over his father's company. He was never one to soften towards anyone, but the minute he met Rin, he knew that he had found someone to protect. His father used to tell him that one day, he would find someone important enough to protect and when he came across Rin, he knew that she was meant for him.
He had just moved into an apartment building that was within walking distance from his office and he saw no point in wasting the gas to simply drive a couple of blocks to work, so he decided to walk. After all, who was stupid enough to attack a sharp-clawed youkai?
As he walked by an ally, he heard the faint cries of an infant. Pausing in his steps, he glanced down the darkened ally and narrowed his eyes when he saw a tiny fist rising from a trashcan. Growling, he walked towards the crying infant and when he came upon the baby, he could see that she had been abandoned.
The moment he took in her appearance, he knew that his life would change. Sighing, he set his briefcase down and called his secretary and informed her that he would not be in the office. Once he made sure that his appointments would be rescheduled for the following week, he picked up the infant and made his way back to his apartment so that Jaken could drive him and the pup to the hospital.
Several hours had passed and finally, he was allowed to leave the hospital with the pup, whom he had named Rin. His lawyer had argued that youkai instincts came into play and that by the fact that Sesshomaru had saved Rin, she was now his in the eyes of the law. Besides, the lawyer pointed out to the hospital staff that if they were able, they could try to take Rin out of his arms, but not to come crying to him if his client separates their arms from their bodies for attempting to take his pup.
So, Rin became his in every sense of the word. She had his name, his home, his attention, and his undying devotion. He knew his father would be pointing and laughing at him for the situation, but Sesshomaru could not bring himself to care.
And so, that was how Rin became someone he would protect.
And then came Kagome. Kagome Higurashi was a natural walking disaster. The girl was clumsy, stubborn, she made a mess wherever she went, she loved to talk, and she managed to get herself into situations that he swore she got into on purpose.
However, she was also trusting, compassionate, loyal to a fault, honest, didn't see the bad in people until it was too late, and she was completely accepting of people, not matter their species.
He could remember the first time he had met her. He had come home for the weekend from college and knew that he would have to put up with his idiot half-brother, the whelp's girlfriend, and the cousin of the girlfriend. If the cousin was anything like Inu Yasha's girlfriend, she would attempt to get to his wallet through his pants. Once inside, he was introduced to both Kikyo and Kagome Higurashi. When the hanyou pulled his girlfriend close to his body and away from him, he allowed his eyes to look over the girl named Kagome. While there was nothing there that stood out to him, he did note that she was prettier than most humans; however, she held no interest for him. He dismissed her as being a 'worthless, little human' and as he began to walk away, he heard her stomp her foot and snap at his brother, "What in the hell crawled up his ass and died?"
Of course, he never let anyone insult him and so, he swiveled on his heel and quickly came face to face with the dark haired female. He growled to let her know that he was not happy with her choice of words, but instead of shrinking back in fear, she simply put her hands on her hips in the age-old indicator of feminine irritation, and glared right back at him.
If it was one thing that Sesshomaru respected, it was courage. From the girl's scent, she was intimidated; however, she was not about to be bullied and continued to stand her ground. Finally, after he assessed the girl once more, he glanced over at his half-brother and girlfriend and said, "Unlike your bitch, this girl is actually worth something."
He left the room and smirked. Suddenly, he heard the hanyou shriek, "What!"
After that initial meeting, he arranged to come home more often, much to his father's amusement and actually looked forward to the days when his half-idiot would bring his girlfriend and cousin to the house. He knew that Inu Yasha was completely devoted to his girlfriend, but that didn't stop him from being possessive over the younger girl, Kagome.
So, when he noticed that his elder brother was watching Kagome, Inu Yasha immediately objected. The hanyou voiced his displeasure in many ways and much like what he had done most of his life, he simply ignored the brat.
Kagome, however, was completely unaware of his attention. She was surprised when he first approached her after that initial meeting and engaged her in a conversation. He helped her obtain the necessary supplies for the party that his half-brother and girlfriend were throwing for their friends. He pulled her out of the pool when she tripped and went head-first into the deep end (though she ended up taking her bitchy cousin with her when she grabbed the older girl's arm). He also picked her up when she called the house from the police station after a date her friend, Sango, set her up on attempted to harm her for refusing his advances.
Kagome had become a huge part of his life and even after he took Rin on as his own pup, Kagome was there to help him. She had recently started her third year of college and was constantly coming over to his apartment to help care for Rin. In the beginning, she had been the one to educate him on how to care for a human pup. He was very happy to learn that her tendency towards clumsiness didn't extend towards Rin as Kagome loved to hold the pup in her arms as much as she could.
It was when Rin began to speak that made his secret so much harder to keep. Rin's very first word was 'mama' and it was spoken to Kagome, whose eyes glistened with tears as she handed his daughter over to him. He had never seen such a beautiful sight as when his daughter stared up at Kagome and said those fateful words.
Now, he had to come to a decision. Did he act upon his secret or did he continue on as he had been?
He came to his decision about a week after Rin's momentous achievement. He was sitting at his desk when his secretary poked her head into his office and announced that Kagome had arrived. When the older woman moved aside, he watched as Kagome moved towards him and sat in the chair before him.
Her eyes were red and she sniffled a bit before looking up. "Inu Yasha and Kikyo broke up." She stated and then allowed her face to crumble. "Kikyo says that it's all my fault because Inu Yasha told her that he wanted to be with me instead of her. She said that she hated me and that she never wants to talk to me again."
He could not help his reaction and judging from the fact that in his anger, he managed to snap his pen in half, thus ruining the document he had been working on, he snarled. Throwing the broken pen across the room, he stood up and walked around the desk towards the crying female and quickly brought her into his embrace.
As sobs shook her body, he growled softly in an effort to calm her down and once she had settled, he pulled back and calmly said, "I will speak with the half-breed. Your cousin will calm down and if she doesn't, then she is a fool. You have done nothing to encourage the brat and she is simply bitter about being thrown over for another woman."
Kagome took in a deep breath and nodded. He reached into his pants pocket and withdrew his keys. "Rin is at home with Jaken. Perhaps spending some time with her will make you feel better. When she lays down for her nap, you may use my bedroom to rest, if you wish." He said and allowed his eyes to soften when she graced him with a small smile.
Turning her, he gave her a gentle push towards the door, smirked slightly when she stumbled over her own feet, and watched as she left his office with a small wave. He moved back to his desk and picked up his phone to call Jaken. The toad sounded relieved that he was about to be released from pup-duty and eagerly promised to be and Kagome's beck and call.
The rest of his day went as well as could be expected. He conducted two meetings, fired three employees, made four incompetent people quit, and managed to call his brother and threaten him with castration should he attempt to make a move on Kagome. By the time lunch rolled around, he felt that he had done enough and cancelled the rest of the day's appointments and informed his secretary that he was going home.
As he walked towards his apartment, he passed by a small shop that had caught his eye several times, but he never went inside. Since today was such a good day, he decided to indulge a bit and walked into the shop and was quickly greeted by a friendly associate.
When he finally made it home, he walked through the door to find Jaken asleep on the couch. He could see that Rin had been busy as the living room was completely covered with toys. He noticed that Kagome's purse and coat were hanging on a chair in his dining area and as he sat his briefcase down on the table, he decided to look for the dark haired beauty.
He walked into his room, expecting her to be there since the apartment was so quiet and he figured that she would be taking a nap in his bed. But, to his disappointment, she was not there. So, he went to Rin's room and found his two girls asleep in the rocking chair that Kagome had insisted that he buy. Despite her being asleep, Kagome kept up the gentle rocking and he could see that both females were content.
An idea came to his mind and he turned around and went into his room only to emerge a moment later with his camera. Walking back to Rin's room, he made sure that it was on and quickly took a picture of his two females.
When the camera flashed, he saw Kagome's eyes flutter and when she awoke, he moved over to her side. She yawned a bit and then gave him a sleepy smile before looking down at Rin.
"I remember when my brother was this little." She said, her eyes soft upon the tiny pup in her arms. "My mother used to tell me that there was nothing like having a little one to depend upon you to make you realized what is important in life. She was right."
"Indeed." He agreed and gently took possession of his daughter. He moved the pup to her bedding and covered her up before allowing his large hand to smooth over her hair. Glancing behind him, he motioned for Kagome to move closer and when she was near, he reached out and pulled her to him.
"My father used to tell me that one day, I would find someone to protect." He murmured, his eyes soft and trained upon hers. "However, fate must have decided to bless me because I have found two people to protect. You and Rin are my reasons that I must be strong. It is for you and for her that I have changed my mind about many beliefs."
Kagome smiled up at him and wrapped her arms around his waist. Leaning her head against his chest, she could hear just how fast his heart was beating and she had to wonder if he knew that hers was beating just as fast.
He took her hand and pulled her out of the room. Leading her down the hall and into his bedroom, he closed the door behind him and watched as she took in the details of his private domain. He moved towards her and motioned for her to sit upon his bed.
"Kagome, I cannot do this any longer." He said, his golden eyes narrowing. "We are a family and both Rin and I need you. I am asking for you to become a permanent part of my pack."
Kagome took in a deep breath. In human terms, becoming part of a family meant marriage. "Are you asking me to marry you, Sesshomaru?" She asked. She knew that she cared for Sesshomaru and probably even loved him, but they've never even kissed, so how in the world could they marry?
To her relief and slight disappointment, he shook his head. "Becoming pack is different from marriage. There is a life-time commitment and by joining with me, you will become my mate. However, since we have only known each other in a platonic fashion, I would simply be courting you until you were comfortable enough to accept my mating mark. However, you would move into this apartment and share my room with me. You would be pack and I cannot protect you if you are not here." He explained. "Marriage, in human terms is breakable. Mating is not. I will never leave you nor will you leave me. We would be together for the rest of our lives."
Slowly nodding, Kagome processed the information she was just given and stood up. "May I have a couple of days to think on it?" She asked.
Standing up, he said, "Of course."
Giving him a smile, she turned towards the door and opened it. Pausing, she turned a bit and he saw that she was biting her lip. He tilted his head a bit and allowed his eyes to widen when she turned around and moved back over to him. She motioned for him to bend down to her level and when he did, he felt her soft lips against his cheek and heard her whisper, "Thank you," in his ear.
She quickly left the bedroom and grabbed her belongings before walking to the front door and leaving the apartment. As the door closed, his hand came up to his cheek and he smirked. It would only be a matter of time before he received his answer and he was almost positive he knew what it would be.
Three days passed by and he finally received word from her that she had his answer. He was nervous as he waited for Kagome to arrive at his apartment. She had asked that they meet after Rin had gone to bed, as she didn't want any interruptions.
When the knock at his door alerted him to her arrival, Jaken quickly went into his room and shut the door. Taking a deep breath, he went to the door and opened it to find Kagome on the other side. His mind took in the fact that she was quiet and seemed nervous. He moved aside to let her enter and when he tried to take her coat, she shook her head and said, "I need to keep it on. What I have to say won't take that long."
He felt his stomach tighten and he led her to his bedroom. Once inside, Kagome watched as he sat down and once he was settled, she clasped her hands in front of her and took in a deep breath. "I came here tonight to give you my answer. I thought long and hard about this and I realized something about the two of us. You are everything that I could ever ask for in a husband or in your case, a mate. I know that I have many faults, but you don't seem to mind them. However, there is one thing about you that I cannot ignore. You are an excellent father and to be honest, that fact came as a complete surprise to me."
He was silent through her speech and waited with baited breath for her answer. "Before I commit to anything, I want you to do something for me. I want to know that we can be together emotionally, mentally, and physically." She said, her hands now playing with the belt that held her long overcoat closed.
"Tell me what you want me to do and I will do as you ask." He said and stood up. If she wanted him to go and retrieve something for her that would make her happy, he would do so. If she wanted him to kill his half-brother in order to see that he was willing to do anything for her, he would do so. He would do anything for her. All she had to do was ask.
Kagome took in a deep breath and quickly summoned her courage. Once she had it (as well as a fierce blush on her face) she untied the belt that held her coat closed and shrugged the garment off of her shoulders and allowed it to pool around her feet.
"I want you to make love to me." She replied, her tone quiet. She came to this decision when Sango began to squawk at her to 'carpe diem' or in simpler terms, 'seize the day' and take what Sesshomaru had been offering her. But, she could not commit to something that would last a lifetime if they were not completely compatible. So, that was why she came to Sesshomaru's apartment naked, save for her coat and shoes. Her mother would die of shock if she could see her daughter now.
He took in her naked form and let out the breath he had been holding. She could have asked for anything in the world and all she wanted was him. He slowly walked over to where she stood and when he was beside her, he wrapped his arm around her body and pulled her against his chest.
"As you wish, my Kagome." He murmured and lowered his head so that he could press his lips against hers.
Very slowly, he made love to her mouth, his tongue tasting every single inch of her mouth while his hands smoothed down her shoulders and to her hands. Taking her hands in his, he moved them to the buttons of his shirt and helped her undo the buttons that held the shirt closed. Once the shirt was unbuttoned, he shrugged off the garment and broke the kiss in order to move his mouth down her jaw and to her neck.
Kagome, while enjoying his attentions, allowed her hands to rest upon his chest and she sighed as she felt the muscles underneath the silky skin jump. He growled softly as his mouth moved to the skin where her shoulder and neck met and once he found the spot he was looking for, he gave it a nip before easing the sting with his tongue.
She sighed and closed her eyes as his hands moved around behind her and finally came to a stop underneath her bottom. He pulled back from her neck and looked down at her as he lifted her up off the ground so that he could carry her to his bed.
It didn't take long after that for him to join her in the state of undress, nor did it take him long to work her untried body into a frenzy. His mouth moved over her skin as her cries were like music to his ears. When he finally began to push into her body, he felt her tense up and he growled.
"Relax, Kagome." He ordered, his powerful thighs shaking from the effort to not thrust in. "We will take this nice and slow, but you need to relax."
Kagome took in a deep breath and closed her eyes. She felt him slowly pushing inside of her and when he finally came upon her maidenhead, she winced. When she opened her eyes, she noticed that his eyes were closed and he was sweating from the effort of holding back.
Biting her lip, she knew that she needed to get it over with. Taking in another deep breath, she quickly wrapped her legs around his waist and pushed herself down onto his cock, thus saving him from causing her any pain.
He felt her barrier tear, but what amazed him was that she was the one to force the issue; not him. He softly groaned at the feel of her tight, hot walls clenching around his cock and he clenched his teeth together as he waited for her breathing to even out so that he could begin to prove to her that he could please her physically.
The first sign that she was ready was when she relaxed her legs. Taking that as a sign for him to move, he slowly pulled out and was rewarded with her gasp. The second sign that she was ready was when her eyes met his and then rolled into the back of her head when the thrust back inside. The third sign, and his favorite, was when her nails bit into his backside and she hissed, "Please, go harder,' and he knew that he was safe to really begin.
For Kagome, she finally knew what Sango and her other girlfriends were talking about, though she was sure that Sesshomaru was all in a class of his own. Some girls say that they saw fireworks; other girls say that they felt the earth move, and she would say that she knew what heaven felt like because that was where Sesshomaru took her.
His thrusts began to increase and she had lost count of how many times he made her climax, but when he finally met his, she felt his mouth close over the spot on her neck that he had paid special attention to earlier and cried out when his fangs pierced her skin.
Suddenly, she could feel his desire for her and she could also feel that he felt more deeply for her than any other female he had ever encountered, excluding Rin. The fact that after he had regained his breathing and was able to pull out of her, he pulled her into his arms and refused to allow her to leave his side was proof enough of his loyalty towards her.
In the end, she knew that she had made the right choice for herself and proceeded to tell him so when she finally caught her breath.
He smirked down at her and pulled her tighter against him. But, something occurred to him and he glanced down at her.
"So, you came here dressed only in your coat?" He asked and when she nodded, his eyes narrowed. "Did you forget that we are to be at my father's house in the morning for breakfast? Apparently, Inu Yasha has an announcement to make to the family."
Kagome giggled. "Actually, I was here when you were at work and Jaken let me put some clothing in the spare bedroom's closet."
"So, Jaken knew what your answer was before I did?" He growled, his eyes hardening.
Kagome shook her head. "Nope." She said and then began to giggle again, clearly pleased with her little trick. "I told him that I would be arriving early tomorrow to help get Rin ready and I wanted to have my clothing here to change into after Rin's bath. I think that he would have let me do anything I wanted to do after I offered to clean Rin up after lunch."
"I see." He said and allowed a smirk to cross his lips. As Kagome settled down beside him and he allowed himself to relax, he thought about the coming day and how his family would react to his secret. And, he had to wonder what Kagome would say when he let out yet another secret of his. It would be an interesting day indeed.

True to his word to his father, he drove Kagome and Rin to his father's house for breakfast the following morning. Inu Yasha was still asleep and as his father bounced Rin upon his knee, Sesshomaru cleared his throat and calmly said, "You once told me that I would find someone to protect. I've come to tell you that I've chosen Rin and Kagome as my people to protect. They belong to me and I will not let them go."
The older Taisho glanced over at his son and then towards Kagome. He smiled at the dark haired female and then laughed with the pup began to blow bubbles in his direction. To be honest, he had suspected that Sesshomaru was keeping something from him, but he was pleased that it turned out to be Kagome.
However, he also knew that his youngest son was going to announce his own intentions for the beautiful female and had been keeping his feelings for his long-time friend a secret, as well. But, in his opinion, Sesshomaru was the better choice and he could think of no one better than Kagome to be the mother of his grandpup.
Once his father gave his approval, Sesshomaru led Kagome outside and towards the gardens. While Rin was occupied with her grandfather, Sesshomaru decided to give up his last secret to Kagome. He allowed a naughty smirk to cross his lips and once they were well hidden from prying eyes, he turned to her and said, "I have something for you, Kagome."
She lifted her eyebrow at his suggestive tone and waited for him to continue. Sesshomaru stepped closer to her and leaned down to her ear. "If you want it, you will have to reach into my pocket. I'm sure that you will love what you find." He purred.
Kagome stepped back and gave him a critical look-over. Good God, he was giving Miroku a run for his money in the hentai department. However, she glanced down at his pockets and then narrowed his eyes at him. All she could see was the outline of his cock against his jeans.
"I think that I already know what you have in there, and even though it is impressive and I really do like it, I'm not willing to touch it at your father's house." She snapped and then crossed her arms over her chest.
Lifting his eyebrow, he moved closer to her and reached out to take possession of her hand. "Come now, Kagome. Where is your adventurous spirit?" He replied and felt her trying to tug her hand out of his grip.
"My adventurous spirit is at home and still asleep in bed." She murmured and then squeaked when he finally managed to flatten her hand against the outside of his jeans pocket. Her words of protest died on her lips as she felt something small.
Taking in a deep breath and no longer caring about what it looked like, she slipped her hand into his pocket and pulled out his final secret. In her palm lay a small diamond ring.
"I am fully aware that you are not accustomed to youkai traditions. So, I wanted to compromise with you. I wish for you to wear this ring as a symbol of my devotion to you and I will wear one as a symbol of your devotion to me." He said as he held up his hand for her to see that the ring was already on his finger.
Biting back a sob, she allowed him to place the ring on her finger and then leaned down to softly kiss her lips. He pulled back and turned his head towards the house.
"What is it?" Kagome asked and watched as Sesshomaru's lips curled up into a smirk.
"My brother has decided to grace the world with his ever-annoying presence. Shall we go in and reveal our secrets to him, as well?" He asked and offered his arm to his pretty, little female.
Giggling, Kagome allowed herself to be led towards the house and knew that even though they were only in the courting phase of their relationship, it would not be long until they made it completely official. After all, it was as her lover said: They were family.
