Nightly Routine

It was their nightly routine, every night before they went to bed they would pull off the mountainous pile of cushions, draw back the covers and settle in for the night. Sesshoumaru thought they were a waste of time but if it made his mate happy then who was he to argue.

They had been mated for five years now and had recently had a daughter together. Sesshoumaru worked as a detective for Tokyo police department, his keen nose able to track down many criminals. Kagome worked as a children's nurse and was training to be the sister on the ward.

Sesshoumaru had been working on a particularly hard case all week and had managed to acquire some time off to spend with his mate and pup. To celebrate Kagome had hired a babysitter to look after their daughter while they had a night out at on of the biggest restaurants in town.

Sesshoumaru was exhausted and it took all of his resolve to stay awake so as not to disappoint his mate. Not to mention how embarrassing it would be if he fell asleep in his soup bowl.

Kagome, observant as always, noticed her mate wasn't quite himself, "We don't have to stay if you are too tired, we can have an early night."

"No, this night is for us, for the first time in a long while we have time to ourselves and I want to make sure you have a good evening."

"Don't you realise by now that I would much rather be curled up next you in front of the TV or in bed than all this finery." She frowned at him when he raised an eyebrow at her, "Come on I know you would rather be in bed at this point in time, stop being so stubborn!"

Beaming with satisfaction as he called for the check, they paid their bill and headed for home.

"Go on upstairs and get settled in bed while I take care of the babysitter." He nodded and made his way up the stairs.

As he got upstairs he gave an exhausted sigh when he realised he would have to pull all of the cushions and throw off the bed before he could settle for the night. Deciding instead to take the easier option he pulled the quilt from the bed and laid it on the floor. Stripping off to his boxers and lying down he had dozed of within minutes.

Kagome shook her head as she entered the bedroom and caught sight of him. She would never understand why sometimes he would rather lay on the floor than on their beautiful bed. She spent enough time buying things for it to make it more comfortable.

Sighing she changed into her pyjamas and grabbed some throws and a couple of pillows from the bed and joined him on the floor.

She had to restrain her giggles as his nose and leg twitched while his mouth curled upwards.

"Bless," she sighed as she joined him the land of dreams.
