Chapter 67 - Desire for Privacy

Though she hadn't thought they would, Sesshoumaru's words had instilled a kind of peace in Kagome's mind. Even if he didn't stay with her for her entire life, it definitely sounded as though she had years instead of the months or even weeks that she had feared. She had time with the taiyoukai and that was all she could really ask for. Of course the longer they were together the more it would hurt when it ended, but she didn't need to be thinking about that, not when she could enjoy the time they still had.

Her playfulness had returned full-force and the miko sauntered up to Sesshoumaru, sat down beside him, kicked off her shoes, and plopped her feet in his lap.

The taiyoukai looked up at her in question. "Is there something you desire of this Sesshoumaru?" he asked with a smirk.

"My feet hurt and since 'this Sesshoumaru' is so good at massages, I thought he should rub them," she said in that teasing tone he loved, mocking his speaking in the third-person.

"And would you like that massage with a happy ending?" he shot back.

"Mmm," Kagome hummed. "That doesn't sound like a bad idea." She laughed when his eyes widened in surprise. "What? You offered."

"That can definitely be arranged," he said heatedly.

"But just because 'this Kagome' gets a happy ending does not mean that 'this Sesshoumaru' would get one as well." she said, letting him know that she wasn't ready to go all the way.

"If those are your terms," he replied, "then I agree to them." His tone was completely serious. He didn't mind getting her off even though she wouldn't be reciprocating. They were still working their way up to the more physical part of their relationship and he would never rush her.

"I don't know what the hell a happy ending is," Inuyasha muttered, "but the two of you need to get a room."

"Not a bad idea," Kagome said with a smirk. "Is there a room available? Aren't we too far from the West?" she asked.

"If we travel my way, we are not too far from anywhere," he replied. "Besides, I have an alliance with the Southern Lord. I am free to use any of his smaller homes, so long as they are empty at the time."

"You mean we could be staying under a damn roof and you've got us camping outside?" the hanyou yelled in frustration.

"We have not yet neared one of his cabins," Sesshoumaru told his younger brother. "Traveling on foot limits our options. If I were to fly, however, we could reach one quickly."

Inuyasha rose and sat down beside Kagome, concerned. "Are you gonna sleep with him, Kagome?" he asked, ignoring the fact that the taiyoukai could obviously hear him.

"I believe that is none of your business," the miko replied. "But no, we're not there yet."

The hanyou made a face. His concern had forced him to ask the question, but he really hadn't wanted to hear the answer. He knew that lying with the taiyoukai would only strengthen Kagome's feelings for his brother. She hadn't told him about the talk she'd had with Sesshoumaru, so he didn't know that she was feeling better about their relationship. He suspected something had been said, however, because she seemed happier.

Inuyasha was just worried about her and he wasn't sure how to show it anymore. He had agreed to stay out of their relationship, so he could no longer attempt to protect her from the taiyoukai. He wasn't sure he needed to anyway. He wanted to be a good friend to his miko, but he didn't know how. She didn't talk to him about Sesshoumaru, knowing how he felt about the taiyoukai, so he was in the dark, which was an uncomfortable feeling for the hanyou.

"I think a room sounds divine," Kagome said, returning her attention to Sesshoumaru.

"So you're just gonna leave? What if we get attacked?" Inuyasha asked, wrestling with himself not to demand she stay. The whole room thing had been his idea, but he'd been joking! He wanted to keep her safe and he couldn't do that if she were out of his reach.

"You'll be fine without me. It's just one less person for you to have to protect. Besides, we're usually attacked for my jewel shards anyway. Without me and the shards around, who would bother you?"

"But..." Inuyasha started.

"Inuyasha, I know this is hard for you, but I'm in a relationship with Sesshoumaru. We're going to want privacy from time to time, especially since you don't enjoy watching us kiss. Just relax. I'm a big girl, remember?"

"Just... be careful, all right?" Inuyasha muttered softly.

Kagome wrapped her arms around the hanyou she loved with all her heart and smiled. "I will. I promise. Thank you. I know this is hard for you."

Inuyasha blushed and pulled away, uncomfortable with the physical show of affection. "K'eh," he mumbled. "Go on then."

The miko turned to Sesshoumaru, who had waited patiently, even though he was feeling anything but patient. "Shall we?
