Chapter 65 - Welcome Back

Three more days had passed and Kagome had still not returned. Inuyasha would go to check on her condition twice a day and it was making Sesshoumaru insane. He wanted to be the one to see her. He needed to hold her in his arms and scent her, to ensure that she was, indeed, safe and recovering. His body ached for her sweet, unique scent. His ears longed to hear her laugh, to hear her use that flirty tone with him again. His arms ached to hold her. All in all, he was miserable.

Inuyasha said that she would be returning today, and so the taiyoukai had taken up a vigil by the well, refusing to leave until she arrived. Finally, the swell of magic rose up from behind him. In an instant he was in the well beside Kagome. He pulled her into his arms and kissed her with a passionate need that overwhelmed her. It was as if he'd feared he'd lost her forever, and the miko allowed the kiss, participating with just as much heat as he was pouring into her. She'd missed him more than she had expected to, which only served to cement in her mind just how strongly she loved him.

She would never confess such a thing, however. Not when she knew he would eventually be leaving her. He didn't need to know that he'd stolen her heart. Little did she know, Inuyasha had already accidently told him.

Sesshoumaru had been thinking about nothing else over the last few days than what to tell Kagome and still, no answer was forthcoming. He had no idea how to reassure her that he would never leave without telling her his true intentions, to make her his mate.

Finally, the couple broke apart for breath and Kagome smirked. "Missed me?"

"Like a drowning man misses air," he replied honestly.

Kagome's smirk morphed into a genuine smile and she wrapped her arms around his neck, holding him tightly. "I missed you too."

"You are well?" he asked her, burying his nose in the curve of her neck to find out for himself.

"I'm fine," she assured him. "All better. I told you medicine in my time was more advanced. It was just a cold anyway. No biggie. Where's everyone else?"

"Back at the village," he told her. Inuyasha had wanted to wait with him, but the others had forced him away, saying that the couple would prefer privacy for their reunion. Sesshoumaru was grateful for their assistance, because he might have strangled the hanyou while he waited. He was too on edge to deal with his brother's mouth, though the boy had been rather quiet about their relationship after he returned from his first visit, when he'd accidently told Sesshoumaru that Kagome loved him.

Inuyasha hadn't tried to initiate any fights and had made no rude comments. He hadn't accused the taiyoukai of being after anything other than Kagome, and Sesshoumaru wondered why.

"Did you forgive the hanyou for his rudeness?" he asked her.

"On one condition, that he would stay out of our relationship. Has he been behaving?"

"Surprisingly well. That explains everything," he said with a smirk. "So now I can kiss you without his rude noises?" he asked playfully.

"He promised to try, but said he can't control the desire to gag when he sees us together," Kagome explained with a laugh. "This is hard for him, you know."

'It is rather difficult for this Sesshoumaru as well,' he thought to himself. He needed an idea, some way to convince her that he would never leave her for another, without using the word mate, and he needed it sooner rather than later. He could see the shadow of sadness in her eyes as she pulled away from him and he knew its cause. Him.
