Chapter 64 - Accidental Confession

Inuyasha was hesitant to return to the Feudal Era, wanting to stay by Kagome's side, but she'd forced him to go back. She knew the others would be worried about her condition, especially Sesshoumaru, and so she told him to return to assure them she would be all right.

Inuyasha passed through the time portal, only to find himself hauled out of the well by the back of his haori by one very frustrated taiyoukai. He'd been gone for what felt like hours and Sesshoumaru wanted an update on Kagome's condition, now!

When Sesshoumaru's fist went back to hit the hanyou, Inuyasha threw up his hands in surrender, hoping to delay the violence. "She's okay! She's okay!"

"Is she still ill?" Sesshoumaru asked, not lowering his clenched fist.

"Yeah, but she's taking medicine. All that's really left is the cough. No more fever. She's going to be fine."

"You are certain?" the taiyoukai demanded.

"I promise, but man, you gotta talk to her. You have to tell her your intentions. She thinks you're gonna break her heart."

"I am aware," Sesshoumaru responded darkly, "but I do not believe she is ready to learn that I desire to make her my mate."

"Well, you've got to tell her something! She can't keep waiting for it to end through your whole relationship. She lo..." Inuyasha stopped himself midway through his word, but Sesshoumaru's eyes widened, knowing what he was going to say.

"She loves me?" he asked softly.

"She said so," Inuyasha confessed, guilt returning, this time at the knowledge that he had relayed information he didn't think Kagome had wanted shared.

The joy that entered the taiyoukai's eyes washed away the hanyou's guilt. He'd never seen such an expression on his older brother's face before and he was shocked to see such a show of emotion. Now he was certain Sesshoumaru wasn't after anything else, only Kagome's heart. It was a relief, though at the same time it made him uncomfortable. He hated Sesshoumaru. What would happen when Kagome mated him? Would she leave him behind?

Sesshoumaru couldn't believe it. He knew she cared about him, that much was obvious, but if she loved him, did that mean she was ready to hear his confession? Would she freak out when she learned he wanted to mate her or would she be relieved to know he had no intention of leaving her? Could he tell her? Or perhaps he should just hint at it. It wasn't as if she'd confessed her love to him. It bothered him that she told Inuyasha before him.

Did she trust the hanyou more than she did him? Did she not want to tell him because she believed he would leave her? The questions were endless and all he wanted was to see her, to hold her in his arms and stare into her eyes. He wanted to know what he would see there. Would he see her love?
