Chapter 62 - Heading Home

Kagome awoke in a coughing fit. Once she could breathe properly again she admitted to herself that she was definitely sick. The concerned expression on the taiyoukai's face made her smile. "I'll be fine," she promised. "But you're going to have to take me home."

Sesshoumaru frowned and she laughed.

"Did my getting sick ruin all your plans for our time alone?" she teased.

"I do not like the idea of leaving your presence when you are ill," he replied, his tone serious.

"Mama will be there to take care of me. I'll probably go to the doctor, get some antibiotics, and be fine in a week or less. I promise, I'll be okay."

"Antibiotics?" he repeated slowly.

"They're special medicines that fight the cause of the illness," she explained simply. "So, I suppose we should go. Tell me it's not raining again."

"No, it is warm and sunny outside."

"Whew, that's a relief. I don't think I want to fly in the rain again. That sucked."

"Sucked?" Her strange phrasings left him befuddled sometimes.

"It wasn't any fun, Kagome said with a laugh that turned into another coughing fit. Sesshoumaru nodded. It was definitely time to go. "Let me put my clothes back on. I can't go home in this or Mama will start asking questions."

The taiyoukai nodded and went to retrieve her clothing for her, thankful they were dry, if a bit crisp and scratchy. Once she was dressed, they were off, heading towards the well.

Three days later found Sesshoumaru still sitting beside the well, awaiting Kagome's return. He snarled as he sensed Inuyasha's approach. He was still angry over the hanyou's behavior, for causing Kagome to be exposed to the elements and thus causing her illness.

"Where's the wench?" Inuyasha asked, making his companions shake their heads at his gruffness. Really, he was supposed to be apologizing to the miko and yet he couldn't even call her by name?

Before Inuyasha knew what was happening, he'd been punched viciously in the face. "That was for insulting the miko," Sesshoumaru growled before hitting the hanyou again. "That was for forcing her out into the rain." He hit him one final time, this time sending Inuyasha flying. "And that was for her falling ill!"

"Kagome's sick?" Shippo asked in concern.

"Very, with fever, sneezing, and severe coughing," Sesshoumaru explained to the kit. "She went home to take advantage of the medicines of her time."

"Knock it off, you bastard," Inuyasha yelled once he managed to shake off the ringing in his ears and the pain in his jaw. "So she's in her time?"

"That is what I said," Sesshoumaru replied dryly.

Sesshoumaru didn't see it coming as Inuyasha suddenly leapt into the well, disappearing from the Feudal Era without a trace. He hadn't known that the hanyou could pass through the time portal, and was shocked. Deciding to give it a shot himself, the taiyoukai jumped into the well, only to mentally curse when nothing happened and he simply hit the bottom. He leapt back out and stared down Kagome's companions.

"How can he pass through the well?" he asked.

"We do not know," Miroku replied. "We only know that he has always been able to, ever since Kagome first arrived. He will check on her condition and return soon," the monk said, hoping that he was right. Sesshoumaru appeared aggravated with the turn of events and it was obvious he was concerned over Kagome's health. If Inuyasha knew what was good for him, he'd come back as soon as he found out how she was doing, and after he'd apologized, of course.
