Chapter 48 - No More Patience

"So, girlfriend," Sesshoumaru said flirtatiously, aching to hear her teasing tone once more. "Does this new title of mine come with any perks?" He held out his hand to hers, hoping to touch her again. Kagome blushed but took his hand, watching as their fingers twined together.

"What kind of perks are you hoping for?" she inquired.

"Perhaps free access to your lips?" he purred.

Kagome's blush darkened. "Really?" she asked shyly.

"Do you question my desire for you?"

"It just... It doesn't make a lot of sense. What is it about me that attracts demons?" she questioned, trying to break the seriousness of the moment. Every time the situation felt intimate, she grew nervous and found herself searching for a way out. She doubted Kouga would show up again to rescue her, so she decided to go for the humorous route. "I swear I'm a demon magnet. Either they want to court me or they want to kill me. Hell, one wanted to melt me down for hair tonic!"

"It ain't you, wench," Inuyasha said, having finally climbed out of his hole. He apparently hadn't learned a thing from his sitting as he continued. "It's the jewel shards they're after, Kouga and everyone else. I'll bet that's what Sesshoumaru wants too."

"Inuyasha," Kagome said threateningly.

"What? You know it's true. He hates humans. Why the hell would he want to court one? He's got to be after something else and chances are good it's the jewel."

The miko started to open her mouth to say 'the word' when Sesshoumaru's hand slipped out of hers. He'd allowed her to handle Inuyasha's disrespect long enough. Before she knew what was happening, the taiyoukai had punched the hanyou with his full strength, a loud cracking sound telling the group that Inuyasha's jaw was broken. He went flying from the force of the hit and slid through the dirt a good distance away until he finally came to a stop. The hanyou groaned in pain and Miroku shook his head.

"He should have kept his mouth shut."

"You can say that again," Sango agreed.

Everyone watched as Sesshoumaru stalked to where his half-brother now lay, semi-conscious. He lifted the hanyou by the front of his shirt and stared into his eyes as he spoke. "I have no interest in the Shikon, you fool. If you cannot understand why I would be interested in Kagome then you are a blind fool. You will not insult her in such a way again."

"Fuck you," Inuyasha managed to mutter through his shattered jaw.

"No, fuck you, little brother," Sesshoumaru hissed, his outrage causing him to use language he would otherwise never speak aloud. "You will stay out of our relationship or you will pay for your interference. I have put up with enough and I will no longer continue to suffer your foolishness or your attitude. Do you understand me?"

The hanyou raised both his arms in front of the taiyoukai's face and gave him the double middle finger, only to be punched again. This time the hit rendered him unconscious and Sesshoumaru dropped him to the ground.

"Someone's cranky," Kagome said with a laugh.

Sesshoumaru's focus returned to the miko and he smirked. "I have wanted to do that for weeks now."
